A local woman BJP leader in Aligarh, whose video of slapping a girl had gone viral a few days back has been charged under bailable sections. In the video, BJP’s Aligarh city convenor Sangeeta Varshney slapped the girl twice. According to PTI report, the incident took place when the leader saw her having tea with the youth. As per a report by Times Now, she was charged under bailable sections on Saturday evening.

The FIR was registered last night under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC against BJP’s Aligarh women cell leader Sangeeta Varshney on a complaint by the girl’s father, police said.

In the video, Varshney is heard saying, “Tere ko samajh mein nahi aataa kaun Hindu hai, kaun Musalmaan hai. Pyaar se samajhaa rahee hoon, samajh hee mein nahi aa raha. (Don’t you understand who is a Hindu and who is a Muslim. I am politely making this clear, but even then it seems that you are not getting it).” In her defence, Varshney said, “I do not have any problems with the Muslims. But, we have a problem with their policy of alluring Hindu girls, the report said.

The youth in question was arrested on charges of “obscenity” in public place and released on bail later, according to police officials. According to SSP Rajesh Pandey, on Thursday that after the slapping incident, a case under relevant sections of the IPC pertaining to obscenity at a public place was registered against the youth. He was arrested but later released on bail, Pandey said. He added that the girl’s father arrived and took her away, the report added.
