Well, Pakistan find a way to survive and qualify for the Super Fours. What does that mean? Another India-Pakistan clash, but there is some time for that, on Sunday, 21st September, 2025. Tough luck for UAE. They have played really well not only in this series, but in the tri-series prior to this series as well. Of course, there was a blip against India, but that happens to everyone. They will go off this tournament with their heads held high and lots of learnings. Coming to Thursday, 18th September, 2025, we move to Abu Dhabi. Group A is done in terms of qualification but match 11 presents an interesting case. Afghanistan take on Sri Lanka in Group B. A win will take the Afghans through while a loss will take Bangladesh through! Not officially confirmed, but an excellent run rate puts Sri Lanka unofficially into the next round. That should be a cracker of a contest. The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 2.30 pm GMT but our buildup will begin well in advance. So do tune in early. In the meanwhile, you can catch all the action from the Zimbabwe-Namibia T20I series. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
The victorious skipper of Pakistan, SALMAN AGHA, cannot hide his glee. He expresses satisfaction with the victory and advancement to the next round. However, he acknowledges that the team needs to improve its batting performance, crediting the bowlers for their current success in the tournament. Agha praises Shaheen, calling him a match-winner whose all-round skills are crucial to the team's success. He also highlights Abrar's match-winning ability, noting that he can change the course of any game from any situation. When asked about the upcoming match against India, Agha emphasizes that the team is focused on its own performance rather than worrying about others. He confidently states that if Pakistan play to their potential, they can win against any team.
The captain of United Arab Emirates, Muhammad Waseem, is up for a chat now. On being asked about the feeling in the camp at the halfway stage, he credits the bowlers for restricting Pakistan to a low total. Admits that they lost the game because of ordinary batting. Points that they were still there in the chase till the 15th-16th over, but then lost wickets one after the other. Stresses that they need to take the responsibility and bat till the end. Tells that they need to learn and move forward. Highlights that it has been good playing against opponents like India and Pakistan and have learnt a lot as a team from them as well.
Pakistan's SHAHEEN AFRIDI has been adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH, for his all-round show of an unbeaten 29 (14) with the bat and 2/16 in 3 overs with the ball. When asked about his batting, Shaheen credits his hard work in the nets, saying it was satisfying to see his efforts pay off in the match. Shaheen expresses his team's enthusiasm for the upcoming games, stating that they are looking forward to the next matches after this victory. He emphasizes his simple yet effective batting approach, saying he plays every ball on its merit without changing his strategy. Regarding his successful bowling spell, Shaheen explains that he looks to exploit the swing early on and attack the stumps, an approach that has worked well for him so far.
… THE PRESENTATION …
Earlier in the game. United Arab Emirates chose to field, perhaps because of the dew and bowled really well, keeping Pakistan on the mat. Fakhar Zaman's 50 was the only standout, till the 18th over, post which, Shaheen Afridi came out all guns blazing, just like he did against India and his whirlwind unbeaten 29 (14) helped Pakistan amass 28 runs in the last 2 overs. Junaid Siddique bowled his heart out, picking up 4/18 in 4 overs while Simranjeet Singh kept Pakistan quiet in the middle overs, with 3 wickets. However, the efforts still proved short. Please stay tuned for the presentation.
Full marks to Pakistan with the ball. They lacked self belief against India but in this game, they were full of belief. They came out to the middle believing that they can defend 146 and made that 146 look like 176. Shaheen Afridi set the tone early, removing Alishan Sharafu in his second over, eventually finishing with 2/16 in 3 overs. Barring Mohammad Nawaz, the rest then stepped up, with Abrar Ahmed finishing another meagre spell of 2/13 in 4 overs. Not to forget Haris Rauf, who was missed in that India game, picking up 2 wickets in this one. There was no let up of pressure at all.
UAE got off to a great start with the bat, racing to 35/1 at the end of the 4th over. Clearly, they wanted to maximize the fielding restrictions and the new ball, but once skipper Muhammad Waseem departed, the runs simply stopped flowing. Rahul Chopra and Dhruv Parashar tried to stitch things together and got a 48-run partnership but that came in 51 balls. Eventually, the pressure crept up and after that stand was broken, despite the platform being set, the pitch got too difficult for the new batters to bat quickly. Like Pakistan, United Arab Emirates also had only 4 batters in double digits but no one to bat deep and till the end.
This match had all the essence of a red-carpet event. One team refusing to take part till around an hour before the scheduled start of play, then turning up with the match start being delayed by an hour. Then, that team in the news huffs and puffs to an under-150 score, with a number 9 being the second highest scorer of the innings. At the halfway stage, nearly half the world was calling this an early exit for Pakistan. However, that's why they are Pakistan, isn't it? Just when it seems like they are done for, they somehow turn things around from nowhere.
The United Arab Emirates just cannot find the zip to get past Pakistan. Gave a good fight in the tri-series in 2 matches, improving themselves and in this contest, fought really hard with the ball, giving themselves a great chance of an upset. Unfortunately for them, their batting simply did not support enough. That's the 6th loss on the trot for the Arabs in T20Is, while batting second. The last time they won a match chasing was against Kenya, in July 2025.

Haris Rauf to Muhammad Rohid, RUN OUT! GAME, SET AND MATCH! Pakistan have got the victory they needed to advance to the next round of games as they defeat the United Arab Emirates by 41 runs. On a length around middle and off, Muhammad Rohid slices this to deep point and takes two without any difficulty. The throw from the deep was towards the striker's end and Mohammad Haris just tried a cheeky behind-the-back run-out at his end but the batter was well in and the keeper missed the stumps as well. The ball rolled towards the non-striker's end with Rohid keen on the third but at the other end, his partner, Junaid Siddique, had his back against him and wasn't that keen on the run. Haris Rauf picked the ball and threw it on the bounce towards Haris at the striker's end and he did the rest by breaking the stumps.
Muhammad Rohid is the last batter in, replacing Haider Ali.

Haris Rauf to Haider Ali, OUT! CAUGHT! Another one in the over for Pakistan and Haris Rauf too gets his second of the game. Good length, cramping the batter for any sort of room to play with. W
Haris Rauf to Simranjeet Singh, OUT! SIMRANJEET SINGH IS RUN OUT! Just a stump to aim and Sahibzada Farhan hits the bullseye with the batter way short of his ground. The scolding he got from his skipper a few overs back seems to have got the best out of Farhan in the field. A length delivery from Rauf around middle and leg, Simranjeet Singh looks to slog but hits this off the bottom of his bat towards the fielder at mid-wicket and runs for it. Sahibzada Farhan gathers this and hits the stumps at the non-striker's end with the batter much short of his crease. The umpire, just to be doubly sure, sends this upstairs and the result was never in doubt.
Direct hit! This looks close. Sahibzada Farhan was the fielder. Oh dear. Gone by a long margin, is Simranjeet Singh.
United Arab Emirates need another 44 from 18 balls. Pakistan scored 36 in their last 3 overs. Haris Rauf is back on. 2-0-17-1 so far.

Shaheen Afridi to Harshit Kaushik, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Shaheen comes over the wicket and bowls a back-of-a-length delivery going down the leg. Harshit Kaushik looks to get this away towards the fine leg region but fails to get a good connection on it. Ends up gloving this towards the right of the keeper. Mohammad Haris dives to his right and holds onto it inches above the ground. Shaheen Afridi jogs in a celebratory manner towards the keeper but is left stunned as the umpire turns down this. Salman Agha sends this upstairs and there is a spike on the UltraEdge as the ball is next to the gloves of Harshit Kaushik, forcing the on-field umpire to change his decision of not out to out. Simranjeet Singh walks in next.
Caught behind! Is it? Afridi feels so, but the umpire has not given it. Agha has taken the review this time. And yes, UltraEdge detects a spike when the ball is close to the glove!

Salman Agha to Rahul Chopra, Tossed up, around middle and leg, Rahul Chopra puts on the dancing shoes, jumps down the track and flicks this towards Hasan Nawaz at deep mid-wicket towards his left for two. Salman Agha to Rahul Chopra, SIX! How has he managed to hit that? Tossed up, a bit wider outside off, Rahul Chopra came down the track but was far from the pitch of the ball. However, he went through with his reach and somehow swiped it over wide long off for half a dozen!

14.5

On a length, outside off, pace off, Parashar looks to go over the off side but is not to the pitch of the ball. Ends up slicing it and the ball lobs towards deep cover. The ball seems to be dying down but Khushdil Shah charges in from the deep, keeps his eyes on the ball, dives forward and picks it up cleanly with both hands. Parashar departs for 20 (23), an innings where he barely got going. United Arab Emirates are 85/4 and need another 62 from 36 balls.

Good length, around middle and leg, Rahul Chopra backs away and chips this in front of Salman Agha at mid off and sets off for a single. Agha throws it towards the non-striker's end and misses. 1
Abrar Ahmed to Dhruv Parashar, LBW review taken by Pakistan! Seemed to be going down the leg side to the naked eye. It was a full ball, down the leg side, which Dhruv Parashar missed, while attempting the sweep. The ball hit his pads, prompting a loud shout from the keeper and the bowler. The ball deflected towards short fine leg and the batters took the single. Meanwhile, after a bit of a discussion, Salman Agha decided to go for the review. Ball Tracking shows the impact to be outside leg and that kills the story.

Abrar Ahmed to Dhruv Parashar, Quicker one, bang in the line of the stumps. Dhruv Parashar leans over it and drops this gently towards cover for a quick single.
DRINKS BREAK. At the halfway stage, United Arab Emirates are 61/3. At the same stage, Pakistan were 67/2. What this does not tell us is – the difference in the scoring rates. Pakistan were 17/2 after 4 overs and quickened to 50 runs in their next 6 overs. On the other hand, UAE flew off to 35/1 after 4 overs, but have crawled to 26 runs in the last 6 overs. So even though the worm might show both teams as even, it is actually Pakistan who are choking the hosts at the moment. Having said that, the Emirates are adopting the MS Dhoni approach, not going hard after the ball and give room for a collapse. Wickets in hand might just allow you to go big towards the back end, even if might be needing 60 off the last 5.

Saim Ayub to Dhruv Parashar, WIDE. Down the leg side, spinning down, Parashar misses his flick.
Well, after all that inspection, umpire RUCHIRA PALLIYAGURUGE IS WALKING OFF THE FIELD. He clearly looks dazed, looking down while walking back towards the room. This is clearly not a good sign, as science suggests that if you are not able to look straight while walking, your nerves might have got affected. The reserve umpire, Gazi Sohel, from Bangladesh, comes on as his replacement. We resume.
Concussion test! Not for any player, but the umpire instead! Poor old Ruchira Palliyaguruge. The rivalry between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is well known but can the umpires be spared please? Jokes apart, this was just unaccounted for. It seemed like an uneventful ball. It got played towards mid on who returned the ball to the keeper. Mohammad Haris, then, threw the ball back to the bowler as he got ready to get back to his mark. But when the throw came, umpire Palliyaguruge had his back to the ball and got hit right on the head! In fact, the replay shows that the ball hit him on the left ear as well and it has reddened a lot. The physio has rushed out to the middle.

W
Saim Ayub to Muhammad Zohaib, OUT! OUTFOXED! BOWLED! Saim Ayub might have struggled massively with the bat, but he continues to shine with the ball! Comes from around the stumps, and darts it on a tad fuller length, just outside off. The ball slides in sharply through the air, and cramps Zohaib for space and pace both. Muhammad Zohaib is rushed to go on the back foot and tries to cut it away, but is beaten all ends up as the ball skids through and smashes into the stumps. United Arab Emirates are 37/3 down now as Muhammad Zohaib departs for 4 (9). United Arab Emirates need another 110 runs to win off 87 balls!
5.2
Saim Ayub to Muhammad Zohaib, DROPPED? The reactions of the Pakistan fielders seem to suggest so. Full, on middle, Muhammad Zohaib looks to drive it straight but hits this a bit aerially back towards the bowler. It dips onto Saim Ayub, who is unable to pick it up cleanly.
5.1
Saim Ayub to Muhammad Zohaib, Full, around middle and leg, punched towards cover.

Rahul Chopra walks in next, at number 4, replacing his skipper, Muhammad Waseem.

W
Abrar Ahmed to Muhammad Waseem, OUT! GONE! CAUGHT! This could be a game-changing wicket right there for Pakistan! Full marks for a brilliant catch from Mohammad Nawaz. Seeing Waseem moving a bit leg side to go inside out over cover, Abrar smartly bowls it wide outside off, and slows it up, on a fuller length, making Waseem reach for it. The UAE skipper still goes through the shot, but ends up badly mistiming it off the toe end. The ball spoons up towards the point region. Mohammad Nawaz runs backward a bit and flings himself with a dive to grab a fantastic catch. All the Pakistan players are pumped and why not? Muhammad Waseem departs for 14 (15) and the United Arab Emirates are 35/2, needing 112 runs to win!

After 4 overs, United Arab Emirates are 35/1. At the same stage, Pakistan were 17/2! That's nearly double the runs and wickets. Abrar Ahmed to bowl his leg spin now.

1
Haris Rauf to Muhammad Waseem, Tries to tuck him up for space, does Rauf. Bowls a short ball, on the bodyline. Waseem again carves room for himself and punches it wide of mid off for a single. 12 off Rauf's first.
3.5
4
Haris Rauf to Muhammad Waseem, FOUR! That has been PUNISHED! On a back of a length, angling on the off stump line. Waseem again creates room by moving leg side of the ball and belts it over mid off for a cracking boundary!
3.4
Haris Rauf to Muhammad Waseem, Slower bouncer, on top of middle and leg. Waseem backs away and slashes it straight to the cover fielder.
3.3
Haris Rauf to Muhammad Waseem, Some spice from Rauf. Bends his back and fires in a quicker one back of a length around off. MW thumps this back to the bowler's left. Rauf gathers this in his followthrough.
3.2
1
Haris Rauf to Muhammad Zohaib, Back of a length around middle and leg, Muhammad Zohaib flicks this away for a single.
3.2
5
Haris Rauf to Muhammad Zohaib, FIVE WIDES! This is not what Pakistan need right now. Good length, wide of off, and it keeps going away from the batter first, then the tramline and beats the keeper diving to his left as well, behind the stumps. The ball races to the fence for a boundary.
3.1
1
Haris Rauf to Muhammad Waseem, Haris Rauf bends his back first up and darts in a short-pitched delivery around the hips of Muhammad Waseem. The batter hops up on his toes and nudges this through square leg for one.
United Arab Emirates need 124 from 102 balls. Pakistan scored 135 in their last 102. Enough of spin, say Pakistan. Haris Rauf is about to be unleashed now.
2.6
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Zohaib, Another jaffa to end the over! Slams the deck hard, outside off. This one kicks up a bit off the deck and Zohaib is beaten again as the ball passes above his angled bat.
2.5
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Zohaib, BEAUTY! Tempts the batter to draw the front foot out, does Shaheen. Bowls it just outside off, and gets an away shape from the good length. Muhammad Zohaib does not get to the pitch of the ball and hangs the bat away from the body, and is beaten on the outside edge by a kitten whisker.
2.4
2
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Zohaib, A gentle shape away from middle, on a fuller length. Zohaib confidently clips it through mid-wicket for a couple of runs and gets off the mark.
Muhammad Zohaib walks in next, at number 3, replacing Alishan Sharafu.

W
Shaheen Afridi to Alishan Sharafu, OUT! BOWLED'EM! It was Shaheen Afridi with the bat to the rescue of Pakistan and it is Shaheen Afridi with the ball now to draw first blood for the Men in Green. Shaheen Afridi goes searching for swing again and bowls a fuller one outside off. Alishan Sharafu backs away a bit and dances down as well, looking to clear the ring of fielders on the off side. Swings away from his body, gets an inside edge and the ball uproots the off pole. Alishan Sharafu departs after scoring 12 (8).
2.2
1
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Waseem, Full and wide outside off, Muhammad Waseem jumps down the track, backing away a bit. Pushes this towards extra cover and takes one.
2.2
1
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Waseem, WIDE! Back of a length, wide down the leg, Muhammad Waseem goes for the pull but misses The umpire calls it a wide despite an appeal for a caught behind from the Pakistan players.
2.1
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Waseem, Swing and a miss. Good length, angling away from the batter. Waseem clears his front foot from the pitch of it, plants it pointing towards mid-wicket and swings for the stands but misses out.
Earlier, when it was the UAE, it was all about Muhammad Waseem. But ever since Alishan Sharafu has come into the frame, things have changed. Waseem is naturally aggressive but Sharafu is even more so. He is coming of a quickfire 51 (38) against Oman and to add context, in his previous game against Pakistan, in Sharjah, he clobbered 68 (51). He has to be the main wicket for Pakistan.
1.6
Mohammad Nawaz to Alishan Sharafu, Pushed through, full and around off. Alishan Sharafu gets on the front foot and drills it back to Nawaz.
1.5
6
Mohammad Nawaz to Alishan Sharafu, SIX! WOW! An authoritative strike into the stands! Nawaz serves it into the slot, on middle, Alishan Sharafu picks the length nicely, charges down the track and sails it over deep mid-wicket for a massive six. 13 off the over so far!
1.4
1
Mohammad Nawaz to Muhammad Waseem, Full and flat, around off, Waseem backs away to create room and smashes it uppishly, and on the bounce to long off for one.
1.3
1
Mohammad Nawaz to Alishan Sharafu, Floated wide down the leg, Alishan Sharafu gets down on a knee and mistimes the paddle sweep. Gets it away off the scratch towards Abrar Ahmed at short fine leg for a quick single. There is a chance of a run out at the striker's end but Abrar returns a really wide throw to Mohammad Haris, who has to dive to his left to collect, Nawaz is not impressed, asking the youngster to throw at the stumps instead.
1.2
1
Mohammad Nawaz to Muhammad Waseem, Tossed up, around middle and off, Muhammad Waseem gently drops this around point and takes a good single to rotate. This is brilliant from Waseem as a boundary isn't followed by a dot but a strike rotation instead.
1.1
4
Mohammad Nawaz to Muhammad Waseem, FOUR! The spinner has been put under pressure straightaway. Slower one, pitching around off, and turning away from the batter. Muhammad Waseem backs away towards his leg side and cuts this all along the ground past the diving cover-point fielder to his left for four runs.
End of an interesting opening over. Sharafu got things rolling with a boundary, then Afridi bounced back claiming that he has got his man, before things quietened out towards the end. Despite so much action, we just had 6 balls bowled and 6 runs scored! Spin from the other end. It will be Mohammad Nawaz. No Saim Ayub. Could it be because of the success Simranjeet Singh had?
0.6
1
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Waseem, A low full toss, on the stumps, whipped off the inner half of the bat to deep square leg for a single. 6 off the first over. United Arab Emirates need 141 to win off 114 balls.
0.5
Shaheen Afridi to Muhammad Waseem, What a gem of a delivery! How has that missed the sticks? This one tails into the batter, on a good length, on middle. Muhammad Waseem plays for the initial line, trying to defend off the front foot, a bit tentatively though. Gets beaten on the inside edge and the ball passes scarily over the middle stump.
0.4
1
Shaheen Afridi to Alishan Sharafu, Spotting Sharafu advancing down the track, Shaheen bowls it wide on off, full in length. Alishan Sharafu adjusts to it well and pushes it to mid off for a quick single.
0.3
Shaheen Afridi to Alishan Sharafu, Is that caught behind? Or LBW? Pakistan skipper, Salman Agha, opts against the wish of Shaheen Afridi to send this upstairs. Good length, shaping back into the batter and bounces a wee bit extra. Alishan Sharafu gets beaten on the inside and the ball deflects off his front pad back to Mohammad Haris behind the stumps. Shaheen Afridi doesn't even appeal and jogs to the keeper, anticipating a raised finger from the umpire but he keeps it down. Height would have been a factor for sure.
0.2
Shaheen Afridi to Alishan Sharafu, A lot better from Shaheen Afridi as he attacks the stumps this time, a tad short again and on off. Alishan Sharafu pushes this off the inside half of his bat towards cover for a dot.

4
Shaheen Afridi to Alishan Sharafu, FOUR! We are underway in the chase with a crisp boundary from the bat of Alishan Sharafu. Back of a length around off, searching swing but drops this a tad short. Alishan Sharafu rises up with the bounce and punches this through the gap between point and cover point for four runs.

We are back for the run chase. Ironically, this could turn out to be more exciting than the eagerly anticipated India-Pakistan clash a few days back. Heads are on the line and also, there is a massive opportunity. After coming close in the tri-series, is tonight the night where UAE get the better of Pakistan? Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu walk out to open for United Arab Emirates. Shaheen Afridi has the new ball in his hand. Alishan Sharafu to face. Here we go!
… THE RUN CHASE …
Right then, 147 is the magic number for United Arab Emirates to chase. Remember, the winner will qualify for the Super 4s, alongside India and the loser will go back home. Given the struggles the UAE batters have had in chasing targets, the Pakistan bowling unit, restocked with Haris Rauf, will fancy their chances to defend this total. A lot depends on how the in-form batters, Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu, start off and construct this chase. A very interesting run chase is up on the cards, with everything to play for. Stay tuned.
On the other hand, the UAE bowlers executed their plans with precision for 90 percent of the innings. They used pace variations to great effect, seldom relying on sheer speed and instead taking pace off to disrupt rhythm. But once again, their bigger vulnerability, death bowling, came back to haunt them. They conceded 28 runs in the last 2 overs and lost the momentum toward the end. Simranjeet Singh proved to be a masterstroke change for the UAE as he picked up 3 crucial wickets, whereas Junaid Siddique ended up with brilliant figures, taking a spectacular four-for.
For Pakistan, a recurring concern has been the make up of their batting lineup. Stacked with players chosen for high-intent, power-hitting ability. While this offers explosiveness, it has repeatedly exposed their struggles with the fundamentals of batting, which are rotating strike, finding gaps, and defending under pressure. As a result, when early wickets fall, incoming batters rarely settle, unable to rebuild through singles and doubles and often hesitant to go big straightaway. Partnerships never truly developed, with only two batters from the top 5 in double digits, despite the depth in their batting lineup. Had there been no fireworks from Shaheen Afridi towards the backend, the scoreboard would have read very sorry-looking numbers.
On a grassy surface, the ball was always going to skid and seam, and the UAE pacers made full use. Junaid Siddique struck early with two key wickets, setting the tone as Pakistan’s batters failed to adjust to the pace of the pitch. The top order never found rhythm, and the Powerplay closed with the scoreboard stuck at 39/2, giving UAE the upper hand. The spinners then carried the momentum, keeping things tight through the middle overs. Fakhar Zaman and Salman Agha offered some resistance with a 61-run stand, but runs came slowly and the pressure kept mounting. Salman’s scratchy 20 (27) ended the partnership, leaving Fakhar to shoulder the load. He battled his way to a fifty, much like in the recent Sharjah tri-series, but his dismissal triggered another slide as Pakistan slipped from 70/2 to 93/6 under the stranglehold of spin.
Question. Is it about time for Shaheen Afridi to bat a bit up the order? Because he has displayed some serious hitting skills coming in the backend, which ideally should come from the middle order. Whether he comes up the order or not is the team's lookout, but with a strong finish in the last two overs, Pakistan will feel the momentum is on their side as they head to the sheds. More on Shaheen Afridi, he has been more productive with the bat than with the ball, playing those crucial cameos and helping the team to post at least a defendable total on the board. He did it against India, with a cameo of 33, and tonight, scoring 29 off just 14.

Muhammad Rohid to Shaheen Afridi, OUT! HARIS RAUF IS RUN OUT. Great comeback by Rohid after going for 14 runs in his first 3 balls. Slower ball, on a length, outside off, Afridi backs away and looks to go inside out but ends up carving it over the field. The ball lands safely and the batters just keep on running. There is just the couple of runs available but Rauf is ready to sacrifice his wicket for the team's cause and challenges the throw, as he scampers back for the third. Simranjeet Singh returns a decent throw to the keeper, Rahul Chopra, who collects and hits the ball at the stumps, with Rauf not even in the frame. PAKISTAN FINISH ON 146/9!
19.5
Muhammad Rohid to Shaheen Afridi, Very full, on middle, Shaheen Afridi beings out the helicopter again, this time, along the ground, towards long on. Rauf starts to run but then Afridi sends him back. So two consecutive dots.
19.4
Muhammad Rohid to Shaheen Afridi, Finally, a dot ball. Wide yorker, outside off, SA reaches out, after backing away way too early and misses to connect.
19.3
4
Muhammad Rohid to Shaheen Afridi, FOUR! 6, 4, 4! This is a dream start to the final over for Pakistan. A slower ball, but short in length, Shaheen pulls it over short fine leg and finds the boundary again!
19.2
6
Muhammad Rohid to Shaheen Afridi, SIX MORE! Jeez – 23 from 10, with 2 fours and 2 sixes! He is really reminding everyone of the way his father-in-law used to play! A full ball again, down the leg side, Afridi brings out the helicopter and this time, it has wings deployed on it. The ball sails over the square leg fence!
19.1
6
Muhammad Rohid to Shaheen Afridi, SIX! CLUBBED! Full, outside off, Shaheen Afridi stays leg side of the ball and swings it cleanly through the line to clear long off!
Who will bowl the final over? How much can Pakistan get? Muhammad Rohid is the answer to the first question. 3-0-18-0 so far. The second question should be answered soon.

Junaid Siddique to Haris Rauf, Another slower ball, outside off, dabbed towards backward point. So Siddique has to adjust with another 4-wicket haul, his 5th in T20Is. 4-0-18-4 for him tonight.
Haris Rauf walks in next, at number 10, replacing Mohammad Haris.

Junaid Siddique to Mohammad Haris, OUT! BOWLED! The slow death! The off cutter, from the back of the hand but Mohammad Haris does not read it at all. He has to wait and wait and wait, but the ball simply does not arrive. Losing his patience, he gets across and attempts a mighty mow via a paddle but is never in sync with the ball. He misses and the ball comes in late and knocks the leg stump out of the ground. 4th wicket for Siddique. Can he get his maiden T20I 5-fer? Haris departs for 18 (14) and from 70/2, Pakistan are now 128/8!
18.4
1
Junaid Siddique to Shaheen Afridi, Change of angle, from over the wicket. The off cutter, on a length, around off, angling away, SA goes for the big hoick but only manages a thick inside edge onto his pads. Takes the single off the deflection. 10 from the over with 2 balls left.
18.3
4
Junaid Siddique to Shaheen Afridi, FOUR! What a shot from a number 9! A grounded helicopter, shall we say? Full, outside off, Shaheen Afridi walks across and whips it through mid-wicket. There are two fielders in the deep, not too far apart at deep mid-wicket and wide long on, but they get bisected perfectly!
18.2
Junaid Siddique to Shaheen Afridi, On a length, outside off, coming back in, Shaheen swings hard but misses and is hit on the pads. The skipper and bowler have a chat as the LBW appeal is struck down, but no review is taken. Seemed like an inside edge.
18.2
1
Junaid Siddique to Shaheen Afridi, WIDE. Goes full again, but this is wide outside off, making Afridi reach out for it. But it is well past the tramline and is wided.

4
Junaid Siddique to Shaheen Afridi, FOUR! That is a good start to the over for Pakistan. Full, outside off, Shaheen Afridi thumps it through mid off. The fielder dives to his left but misses. The ball races away to the fence. That has to be an error in length. Cannot bowl full with mid off up.
2 overs left. Can Pakistan get to 140? Whether that's defendable or not, is another question. But they will certainly gain some momentum.

Haider Ali to Shaheen Afridi, Another swing attempted, missed again. The ball hits his pads and deflects towards the off side. Single taken.
17.4
Haider Ali to Shaheen Afridi, Wow. That is a fantastic shot for a six. Only, not in reality. A slower ball, from over the wicket, pretty straight, around middle and leg, Afridi gives the kitchen sink, but water does not flow from the tap at all. He swings hard towards the leg side but meets thin air. Luckily for him, the straight ball somehow misses the leg stump!

Junaid Siddique to Mohammad Nawaz, OUT! CAUGHT! That is a sensational catch and it is the skipper, Muhammad Waseem again! Third wicket for Junaid as well. On a length, outside off, pace off again, Mohammad Nawaz tries to go inside out over cover but once again, is through his shot very early. The ball hits the toe end of his bat and lobs up over cover. For a second, it seems like the ball will land in no man's land again but Waseem charges back from cover, running to his right, keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a tremendous catch. Nawaz departs for 4 (5) and from 70/2, Pakistan are now 110/7!

Simranjeet Singh to Khushdil Shah, OUT! CAUGHT! Another one goes and this is implosion of the highest order now. 70/2 at one stage has become 93/6, in the span of 26 balls. Third wicket for Simranjeet Singh, in the span of 7 legal balls. And the left-arm spinner has got two left-handed batters. Tossed up, around middle and leg, Khushdil Shah comes down the track and goes for the heave ho but he is not quite to the pitch of the ball. Skews his shot through square leg and though the ball has plenty of air time, it does not have the distance. Calm catch taken by Muhammad Waseem, the skipper, at deep square leg. 4 (6) for Khushdil Shah tonight.
Fine bowling by Dhruv Parashar. 4-0-33-1. Did concede 3 sixes to Fakhar, but you would take these figures any day in a T20.

Simranjeet Singh to Mohammad Haris, The glove saves Haris. Full and straight, Mohammad Haris got down to paddle but missed and was hit on the pads. The ball rolled down towards short fine leg and while the batters were contemplating about the run, UAE kept on appealing. The umpire did not agree and the bowler convinced the captain to have this checked upstairs. Initially, it seemed as if the impact was outside off, but while the replay seemed to indicate that the impact might have been in line, UltraEdge returned a spike when the ball was near the glove. The decision stays as it is and UAE lose a review. No run taken, by the way.
We have an LBW review straightaway! It seemed like the impact was outside off to the naked eye. Was there bat involved too? UAE have taken the review. Ahh… UltraEdge returns a spike. Review lost.
Mohammad Haris walks in next, at number 7, replacing Hasan Nawaz.

W
Simranjeet Singh to Hasan Nawaz, OUT! LBW! Flighted delivery, around middle, Hasan Nawaz lunged to defend but missed as the ball straightened a touch. The angle seemed to be taking the ball down the leg side but the umpire raised his finger on the appeal. Now, considering the angle, Hasan consulted with his partner and went for the review. Nothing came on the UltraEdge when ball passed the bat but when Ball Tracking loaded up, it projected the ball to be clipping the outer half of leg stump! Meaning, umpire's call it is, decision will stay but Hasan will have to go! He departs for 3 (4) and from 70/2, Pakistan are now 88/5!

Simranjeet Singh to Fakhar Zaman, OUT! CAUGHT! Left-arm spin gets the big wicket! Oh dear. The replaced bat has lasted for just 4 balls for Fakhar. We mean, the bat is still there, but unfortunately for its wielder, his innings has come to an end. Fractionally short, around middle and leg, Fakhar Zaman backs away and looks to go inside out, but the ball bounces extra and also, cramps him for room. Ends up chipping it towards cover where the fielder runs back to his left and takes a nice catch. Harshit Kaushik is the one who does the job. Zaman departs for 50 (36) and from 70/2, Pakistan are now 86/4!

Dhruv Parashar to Fakhar Zaman, Pitched short and outside off, cut away to the point fielder.
DRINKS. A very disciplined bowling display by the United Arab Emirates' bowlers so far. They have not allowed the batters to run away with the score and have bowled on tight lines and lengths. Junaid Siddique and Muhammad Rohid set the tone early with Junaid picking up two big wickets and plugging the scoring. However, Fakhar Zaman and Salman Agha have managed to construct a stable partnership of 58 runs so far. One of these two will have to bat till the end if they are to post a tough total on the board. The average first inning score here in thereabouts of 155, and to reach there, they will have to bat with conviction. As of now, we haven't seen the batters go on the offensive as they have played to prevent a collapse. But Pakistan will look forward to switching the gears after this break. Dhruv Parashar is back into the attack after the hydration break.

Junaid Siddique to Sahibzada Farhan, OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Junaid Siddique has dismissed both the Pakistan openers in two consecutive overs and the UAE are all over their opponents early doors! Junaid hits the hard length, and gets the ball to nip away off the deck, on middle. Sahibzada Farhan lifts his front leg up in the air and shapes to whip that over deep square leg, but only manages to get a thick top edge and the ball carries straight down the throat of Muhammad Zohaib stationed in the deep. Junaid Siddique to Saim Ayub, OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! CAUGHT! Another duck for Saim Ayub and his lean patch with the bat in this Asia Cup continues. Junaid Siddique slams the deck hard, outside off, and it skids through the surface, hurrying the southpaw on the back foot. Saim Ayub just throws his bat away from his body, and gets a thick outside edge. The ball flies straight towards the fielder at deep third where Muhammad Rohid takes a clean catch. Saim Ayub got out on a ball outside the off stump against India, and this is more or less the same kind of dismissal for him as he is fed in his vulnerable zone. He departs for 0 (2) and Pakistan are 3/1.

Junaid Siddique to Sahibzada Farhan, Excellent review from Sahibzada Farhan! In all fairness, this looked to be missing the stumps in real time as well. This is on a good length, just a bit of tail into the batter, on middle and leg. Sahibzada Farhan is cramped for room and tries to block from the crease, but plays all around it and is rapped on the pad of the back leg. A loud, confident appeal for LBW, and after a thought, the umpire raises up his finger! Sahibzada Farhan walks to Ayub for a chat and sends it upstairs for a review. Nothing on UltraEdge and the Ball Tracking confirms that the ball is projected to miss the stumps. NOT OUT!

Junaid Siddique to Sahibzada Farhan, First runs on the board and Pakistan and Sahibzada Farhan are off the mark! Swinging into the batter, full and on the leg stump line. Done and dusted with all the pre-match formalities, and after an hour's delay, it is finally time for action at the Dubai International Stadium. A decent amount of crowd has marked its presence, equal distribution for both sides. The two umpires are out to the middle. Muhammad Waseem is offering some motivating words to his men in the huddle before the players of UAE scatter out to the field. Out walks the opening pair for Pakistan – Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan. And it will be pace to begin with from the UAE side. Junaid Siddique has the new ball and is raring to go. The countdown is doen and dusted, and 'Let's Play' says the umpire. Off we go…
If we closely look at the team selections, plainly focusing on the dew factor, Pakistan have opted for an extra seamer, bringing in Haris Rauf in place of Sufiyan Muqeem. Whereas for the United Arab Emirates, they have opted for a spinner over a pacer as Simranjeet Singh, left-arm orthodox, comes in place of left-arm pacer Muhammad Jawadullah. Plenty of left-armers across both sides, though. Well then, it is now time for the national anthems. Both sides followed by the match officials line up. It will be the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, followed by that of Pakistan's.
PITCH REPORT – Urooj Mumtaz and Mike Haysman are pitchside with their thoughts. Urooj starts by sharing that this is the pitch that was used in the Sri Lanka vs Hong Kong, China game. Shares that the average score in the first inning is 155. Mike Haysman joins and observes that it has got a good grass coverage all the way through and stresses that if the seamers hit the right areas initially, they can do a lot of damage. Reckons that it might not assist the spinners a lot as there might not be much turn and grip.
United Arab Emirates (Playing XI) – Alishan Sharafu, Muhammad Waseem (C), Asif Khan, Muhammad Zohaib, Harshit Kaushik, Rahul Chopra (WK), Dhruv Parashar, Haider Ali, Simranjeet Singh (In for Muhammad Jawadullah), Junaid Siddique, and Muhammad Rohid.
Pakistan (Playing XI) – Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Haris (WK), Fakhar Zaman, Salman Agha (C), Khushdil Shah (In for Faheem Ashraf), Hasan Nawaz, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Abrar Ahmed, and Haris Rauf (In for Sufiyan Muqeem).
The captain of Pakistan, SALMAN AGHA, says that they wanted to bat first and put the UAE under scoreboard pressure. Calls the UAE a very good side. Stresses on executing the plans well for longer periods of time. Informs that they have two changes as Sufiyan Muqeem and Faheem Ashraf miss out on this game.
The captain of United Arab Emirates, MUHAMMAD WASEEM, reckons that dew will play a huge role in this game and they will try to restrict Pakistan to a low total. Says it is a do-or-die game for them and highlights that they had a good game in Abu Dhabi against Oman, but says this is a different game against a different opposition and they are ready for it. Informs one change as Muhammad Jawadullah is out and Simranjeet Singh comes in the side.
TOSS UPDATE – The flip of the coin is won by United Arab Emirates and Muhammad Waseem elects to BOWL first.
We are just a few minutes away from the toss. And the live visuals confirm that the Pakistan players have arrived at the stadium and are going through their pre-match drills. Shaheen Afridi is seen marking his run-up, while several others are busy with their warm-ups. Pakistan's head coach Mike Hesson was also seen offering his words of wisdom in the huddle a few minutes back.
On the UAE side, Muhammad Waseem leads the run charts with even more T20I runs than Zaman, and Alishan Sharafu also features in four figures. Pakistan do have a decent track-record at Dubai, but have lost three of their last five games here. If UAE get the pieces of the puzzle correctly, they do have all ingredients to execute a massive upset over Pakistan. But with a 3-0 head-to-head against the UAE, Salman Agha and his men will aim to extend that lead further. The race to Super 4s is heating up. Stay tuned as toss and team updates are up next shortly.
We have some interesting match-ups brewing here, especially up front. Shaheen Afridi is known for his Powerplay dominance, but his economy rate in the early overs has taken a hit this year, which makes his battle against the two in-form UAE openers all the more interesting. With over 1,000 T20I runs, Fakhar Zaman is the only batter in this Pakistan squad to cross that mark, with Saim Ayub the next in line but still far behind. Yet, Fakhar’s bat has been quiet this tournament, making this a perfect chance to find form again. In the recent tri-series, when Pakistan were reeling at 80/5, against UAE, it was Zaman who stood tall with an unbeaten 77 alongside Mohammad Nawaz to post a fighting total.
The United Arab Emirates enter this contest with a few positives to build on. A big confidence boost came from outscoring Pakistan’s total against Oman. Muhammad Waseem remains their talisman at the top, crossing 3000 T20I runs in the last match against Oman, while the promotion of Alishan Sharafu as an opener has brought a much-needed stability. They will also take heart from their tri-series outings against Pakistan, where they managed to challenge them in patches with both bat and ball. The real task now is to move past relying on just a few players and put together a more complete team effort. Their bowling remains inconsistent, particularly at the death where runs have been leaked, and the spinners will need to make better use of the slow, home conditions in Dubai.
With just about an hour left for the first ball, let's shift our focus back in Dubai. The problems just don’t seem to end for Pakistan, especially against stronger opponents. They were completely outplayed by India from the very first ball. Still, they walk into this clash as favorites, having beaten the UAE twice recently in the Sharjah tri-series. On paper, it looks theirs to lose, but there’s plenty to fix. Their opening stand has been a major concern, crossing double digits only twice in the last seven T20Is, including the tri-series. That has consistently heaped pressure on the middle order, which hasn’t always delivered. The bowling hasn’t clicked either, with none of their main bowlers among the top five wicket-takers. Instead, part-timer Saim Ayub has surprisingly shouldered much of the load and he is their leading wicket-taker in this Asia Cup so far.
Meanwhile, over in Dublin, the first T20I in the 3-match series between Ireland and England is well underway. Batting first, the hosts produced an impressive performance, piling up 196 for the loss of just three wickets. Harry Tector starred with an unbeaten 61 off 36 balls, while Lorcan Tucker chipped in with a fine half-century to set up the total. Despite boasting big names in the bowling, the English couldn't put on a lid on the scoring. The second inning has just started with the English chase. You can follow all the action from that match as well.
Had we been on schedule, the toss would already be done by now. But with the delay, we’re still about an hour away from that. In the meantime, no reason to be bored, as there’s plenty of cricketing action unfolding elsewhere in the world. The 2nd Women's ODI between India and Australia is in progression right now, in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. India Women posted a big total of 292, graced by Smriti Mandhana's impressive century, and decent contributions from the middle order. Australia Women used as many as eight bowlers but it was Darcie Brown who was the pick of them, snagging 3 wickets, whereas Ashleigh Gardner picked up 2. Currently, Australia's chase is underway and they are more than halfway into the chase, but have lost big names like skipper Healy, Beth Mooney, and Ellyse Perry. Annabel Sutherland and Gardner, both have formed a stable partnership to keep the flame of the chase ignited. Australia Women currently lead this 3 ODI series 1-0. Feel free to switch the tabs and hop into that matchcenter.
UPDATE – Okay, there is a positive news for cricket fans. It is now CONFIRMED that the match will begin at 3.30 pm GMT, and the toss is expected to take place at 3 pm GMT. We are also hearing that the Pakistan team is preparing to leave for the Dubai International Stadium. In case you missed it, the Pakistan Cricket Board had reportedly appealed to the ICC for the removal of Andy Pycroft as the match referee for this clash against the United Arab Emirates. At this stage, however, there is still no clarity on whether Pycroft will be officiating in this game or not.
UPDATE – The start of the match has been DELAYED BY AN HOUR. The first ball, initially scheduled for 2.30 pm GMT, is now expected at 3.30 pm GMT. However, there is no official confirmation yet. Reports circulating on social media suggest that the Pakistan team is still to leave for the stadium, while the UAE players have already arrived on time. FYI, if Pakistan pull out of the tournament, which looks unlikely, it will be India and UAE to make it to the Super 4s. Again, we are yet to receive the official word. Do stay tuned for further updates.
There has been some uncertainty circling around Pakistan’s participation in the remainder of this Asia Cup, and there are a lot of developments coming in regarding the same. Regardless, this match, IF happens, is crucial for both sides. A loss here ends the road for either team. Both teams are level on points, but Pakistan hold a big advantage on net run rate. The United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, are deep in negative territory. Both had dominant wins over Oman but were comprehensively beaten by India. All of that brings us to this classic do-or-die contest where only one team will move forward.
It's crunch time in the Asia Cup 2025 as we close in to the knockout stages, where almost every match from here on out will shape the destiny of the teams in both groups. We're back in Dubai for another must-win showdown in Group A, with Pakistan taking on the United Arab Emirates in Match 10. Compared to the nail-biting race in Group B, Group A has been a bit more straightforward, but there’s still everything to play for as cricket has a funny way to throw surprises. On that note, hello and welcome to our coverage. Glad to have you all with us.
… MATCH DAY …
Within just a month, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates meet again, for the third time, and this time, at the Dubai International Stadium for Match 10 of the Asia Cup 2025. Looking back at their past encounters, it’s hard to label Pakistan as outright favorites, but there’s no denying the depth and international experience in their squad. The UAE, meanwhile, remain very much in the race after their victory over Oman. For Muhammad Waseem and his men, though, this final group game is do-or-die if they are to keep their campaign alive. The United Arab Emirates have shown steady signs of progress as they gain more exposure against higher-ranked opponents, even if there are still gaps to fill. Their batting has largely revolved around skipper and talisman Muhammad Waseem, but valuable support has begun to emerge from Alishan Sharafu and Asif Khan. On the bowling front, Junaid Siddique has been the standout, currently the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, though much of the load has fallen on his shoulders. The likes of Muhammad Jawadullah and Haider Ali are still searching for their best rhythm, and this contest presents another chance to step up on the big stage. The UAE showed plenty of grit in the recent tri-series in Sharjah, but the challenge now is about delivering the knockout punch at the right moment. Pakistan find themselves in the same boat – it’s do-or-die for them as well. On paper, the odds lean heavily towards the men in green, yet if the UAE manage to pull off the upset, Pakistan will be knocked out and the UAE will sneak into the Super 4s. Pakistan, though, carry their own baggage. Their top order batting has been patchy, struggling to build partnerships, and key names like the skipper Salman Agha and Fakhar Zaman have been short of runs for a while in the middle order. The bowling hasn’t fired either, with part-timer Saim Ayub surprisingly their leading wicket-taker, while the main bowlers haven’t made the impact as expected. Haris Rauf's return remains a question mark, while Shaheen Afridi has made more noise with his quick cameos down the order than with the ball in hand. For Pakistan to survive, their big names must finally step up together. They do hold a 3-0 head-to-head advantage over the UAE, but numbers matter little when survival is on the line. Both teams are fighting to stay alive in the competition, and that makes this Group A clash in Dubai loaded with intensity. Expect nothing short of a cracker.
