Indian benchmark equity indices ended the week on a lower note (December 19),  with indices ending in red The BSE Sensex closed the week at 78,041.59, down by 1176.46 points or 1.49 per cent, while the NSE Nifty ended at 23,587.50, shedding  by 364.20 points or 1.52 per cent.

The Nifty Bank index also ended the week in the red, ending the day at 50,759.20, down by 816.50 points or 1.58 per cent.

Over the past 5 days, the BSE SENSEX has dropped by 3,932.86 points, or 4.80 per cent, reaching a level of 78,041.59. Meanwhile, Nifty 50 has fallen by 1,115.50 points, or 4.52 per cent, over the past 5 days, standing at 23,587.50.

Sensex Top Gainers

Among the 30 stocks on the Sensex, only three posted gains. JSW Steel led the pack, rising by 0.52 per cent, followed by Nestle with a 0.27 per cent increase, and ICICI Bank, up by 0.13 per cent.

Sensex Top Losers  

The top laggards on the Sensex included Tech Mahindra, shedding by 3.92 per cent, followed by IndusInd Bank, dropped 3.43 per cent. Axis Bank fell by 3.36 per cent, M&M down 3.19 per cent and Tata Motors, which decreased by 2.73 per cent. The list further followed with SBI, TCS, Reliance, Adani ports and so ending the day on a negative note.

Nifty 50 Top Gainers

The top gainers on the Nifty included Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, which surged by 1.49 per cent, followed by JSW Steel, up by 0.59 per cent. ICICI Bank saw a surge of 0.40 per cent. Furthermore, in the top 5 gainers Nestle India and HDFC Life posted a gain of 0.21 per cent and 0.03 per cent, respectively.

Nifty 50 Top Losers

On the flip side, the top losers on the Nifty 50 were led by Tech Mahindra, declining by 3.90 per cent. The top 5 laggards list followed closely by Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank, shedding by 3.51 per cent and 3.47 per cent, respectively. M&M declined by 3.24 per cent and Grasim dropped by 2.99 per cent, closing the week on a red note.

Nifty Midcap 50 gainers

Petronet LNG was the lone gainer in the Nifty Midcap 50 today.

On the other hand, the top losers in the Nifty Midcap 50 included Sundaram Finance, Mphasis, IDFC First Bank, CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Godrej Properties, Persistent Systems and so on.
