The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced the counselling schedule for NEET PG 2025 admissions covering both All India Quota (AIQ) and state quota seats. It has also published the final seat position for postgraduate broad speciality courses for the 2025–26 academic year.

According to a public notice issued by the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the NMC, the NEET PG counselling process for the 2025 session will be held in several stages – round 1, round 2, round 3 and a stray vacancy round – for both AIQ and state quota seats.

State counselling authorities have been instructed to strictly follow the timeline notified by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to maintain uniformity and prevent any overlap between AIQ and state quota counselling.

Commencement of academic session and working days

As per the schedule, round 1 counselling was conducted between October and November 2025, followed by round 2 in December. Round 3 is set to continue until January 2026, while the stray vacancy round will conclude by the end of January. The final date for joining seats allotted in any round is January 31, 2026. The academic session for PG courses began on December 22, 2025.

The NMC has also clarified that Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays will be counted as working days to ensure the counselling process is completed on time.

Final seat matrix for broad speciality courses

In addition, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC has released the final seat matrix for postgraduate broad speciality courses for 2025–26. As per the seat matrix, 57,503 broad specialty seats are available for admission, including 7,619 new seats added for the 2025–26 academic year.

Medical colleges and institutions have been asked to cross-check the seat details listed against their names and inform the MARB of any discrepancies within 15 days of the notice. The NMC has cautioned medical colleges that failing to report any discrepancies within the prescribed deadline could delay the update of student admission details on the official NMC admissions portal.

Candidates are advised to regularly visit the official MCC and NMC websites for the latest updates on seat allotment, joining deadlines and further counselling-related instructions.
