2G scam verdict: Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala while addressing the media after the announcement of the 2G scam verdict claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with CAG Vinod Rai and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders hatched a conspiracy and demanded an apology. “Should Narendra Modi and Arun Jaitley not apologise to 1.25 billion Indians. Today is the day that all those who climbed democracy based on this apologies,” said Surjewala. This statement by the Congress leader comes after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on behalf of the Union Government became the first to react. FM said that there was no reason for the Congress party to cheer after A Raja, Kanimozhi were acquitted by the court. “This was a corrupt & dishonest policy, which has already been upheld by the Supreme Court in 2012,” he said.

While talking about the reactions of the various Congress leaders, FM Jaitley said, “Congress leaders are treating this judgement as some kind of a badge of honor & a certification that it was an honest policy.” he added, “No reason for Congress leaders to treat verdict as a badge of honour or certificate.” He went on to say, “Each & every case of spectrum allocation was quashed by SC (in 2012) as arbitrary & unfair, the policy was quashed as unfair & intended to cause loss to GoI & the govt was directed to have a fresh policy by which an auction would take place.”
Further, FM added, “The fact that the policy caused loss is clear from the fact that the subsequent auctions got a much higher price.” He further said, “I am sure that the investigative agencies will have a close look at it (the judgement & acquittal of accused) & decide what has to be done.”
In a major verdict, all the 2G scam cases accused were acquitted by a special court in Delhi today. The verdict came as a big relief for DMK supremo Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi and former Telecom Minister A Raja. While announcing the verdict the court said that that the prosecution has miserably failed to prove any of its charges. Thus all accused are acquitted, according to Vijay Aggarwal, Lawyer of Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Usman Balwa, Vinod Goenka and others.
