The UK is developing a strategy for reimbursing visa fees for foreign talent workers seeking to work in Britain. At the World Economic Forum Annual Meetings, Chancellor and Business Secretary Rachel Reeves presented Britain’s advantages to CEOs and investors, emphasizing why the country is the greatest destination in the world to make investments.

A statement released by the UK government says that in order to make the UK the destination of choice for top global talent shaping the future, the Chancellor will announce reimbursing visa fees for select trailblazers in deep tech sectors and those joining the most promising UK companies in priority sectors.

Attracting Global Talent

What this means is the visa fees for the Global Talent visa, Innovator Founder visa and the High Potential Individual visa could be reimbursed by the UK government, if any of the foreign talent chooses to set up a career or business in Britain.

Global companies will also find it quicker to expand in Britain via a new offer to fast-track their sponsor licenses.

Researchers and academics in sectors such as AI, quantum computing and semiconductors will benefit from visa fee reimbursements, so they can more easily come to the UK and drive innovation.

The UK government is expected to intensify its efforts by doubling its resourcing of the Global Talent Taskforce. This includes bringing in specialist private sector head-hunting expertise, establishing new functions to support individuals to relocate and companies to set up UK offices, starting with a dedicated focus on international AI talent.

In addition, new scholarships to study at UK universities will be made available for International Mathematical Olympiad gold medallists, including internships with world-leading research teams, startups and labs, coordinated by the Advanced Research and Invention Agency.

A ‘Global Talent Taskforce’ has been launched by the UK to lure the world’s top talent to the country. The Global Talent Taskforce’s main goal is to recruit the best talent for the UK’s priority industries.

UK’s Global Talent Taskforce

The Global Talent Taskforce will assist academics, entrepreneurs, investors, top-tier management and engineering talent, and high-calibre creatives in relocating and will collaborate closely with the UK’s overseas presence to network and establish a pipeline of people who wish to move to Britain.

Global Talent visa is one of the unique offerings for foreign workers. With a Global Talent visa, you can work in the UK if you have an endorsement as a leader or potential leader in digital technology, for example, in financial technology, gaming, cybersecurity, or artificial intelligence. You do not need a job offer to get the Global Talent visa.

UK government has also taken steps to help foreign students immediately start contributing to the economy after their studies. International students in the UK will soon be able to switch to an Innovator Founder visa without having to leave the country.

An Innovator Founder visa allows foreign students to set up and run an innovative business in the UK. It must be different from anything else in the market. Also, the business or business idea should have been endorsed by an approved body, also known as an endorsing body. Further, all other eligibility requirements need to be met.
