Namma Yatri, an open network-based auto rickshaw-hailing platform, has rolled out its cab services in Bengaluru. The company has already onboarded over 25,000 cab drivers in the city and plans to add another 100,000 in the next six months.
“This strategic shift not only enhances driver income but also fosters improved vehicle maintenance and elevated customer experiences,” said Magizhan Selvan, CEO, Namma Yatri.
Users in Bengaluru will now be able to choose from a range of cab options, including non-AC Mini, AC Mini, Sedan and XL cabs. Till October 1, the platform will onboard drivers for free, post which a Rs 90 a day subscription charge will be applied to drivers for availing unlimited rides within the day. This is considered to be a relief for drivers as players like Ola and Uber charge a commission on each ride that ranges between 30-40% of the fare.
In the coming months, the platform plans to facilitate inter-city travel, rentals and scheduled rides not just in Bengaluru but across Karnataka. Moreover, the company will accommodate special requests such as disability-friendly rides, extra luggage space, pet travel and trips to public transport hubs, ensuring a seamless and inclusive travel experience for all.
The development comes after the SoftBank-backed business-to-business payment infrastructure platform, Juspay, which operates Namma Yatri, announced the spin off of its mobility division into a separate entity named Moving Tech Innovations.
The entity expects to close a VC funding round in the next couple of months, confirmed Shan MS, chief growth officer, Juspay.
“We have seen how some of India’s large venture funded businesses have scaled while creating massive social impact. We believe that we also have a similar potential and therefore are open to raising venture capital to scale at a population level,” Shan said.
“We have initiated conversations with entities to raise capital. It is still in its early stages, and we expect it to be closed in the next couple of months,” he added. The company also plans to ramp up dedicated hiring once the funding round is closed.
The platform had recently introduced subscription models which include a daily unlimited plan for Rs 25, allowing auto-rickshaw drivers to accept unlimited rides. Alternatively, drivers can also avail each ride at Rs 3.50 per trip for up to 10 rides, beyond which all rides are free.
Namma Yatri works with over 300,000 drivers across India. The family of apps has completed a total of 34.5 million trips and has helped drivers earn Rs 517 crore, according to data published on its app.
