The Indian Minister of Trade & Commerce, Piyush Goyal who is currently on a four-day tour of the United States visited Tesla’s California manufacturing facility.
The minister posted a tweet about his interaction with the Indian engineers and finance professionals working at Senior positions and contributing to Tesla’s journey for transforming mobility.
He further mentioned that he was proud to see the growing importance of Indian auto component suppliers in Tesla’s supply chain; “It is on its way to double its components imports from India. Missed Elon Musk’s magnetic presence and I wish him a speedy recovery.”
The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, replied to the tweet and apologised to the Minister for being unable to meet him in-person.
“It was an honor to have you visit Tesla! My apologies for not being able to travel to California today, but I look forward to meeting at a future date,” tweeted Musk. The exact nature of his health is yet unknown.
The talks around Tesla’s entry seems to be getting stronger by each passing day, with both sides hinting towards a possible breakthrough. Recent reports have even suggested that the Indian government could possibly offer a 5-year tax break to Tesla to start its business in the country. This could lead to Tesla importing Completely Built Units (CBU) in the initial phase, and gradually focusing on manufacturing its electric vehicles in the country.
