RBI’s reliance on forward market for rupee management has grown, with record $106.6 billion in outstanding forward dollar sales. This highlights the central bank’s strategy in dealing with rupee depreciation and increased pressure. The rupee has depreciated 11.4% in the past year, closing at 96.57 against the dollar. Use of forward market gives RBI more flexibility.
