Speaking upon the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid issue, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Vilas Vedanti on Saturday said, “Meine kaha ki meine dhancha tudwaya aur lakhon kar sewakon ne milkar dhanche ko toda.” (I asked kar sewaks to demolish the structure and lakhs of sewaks acted upon it). Speaking to ANI, Vedanti also said, “Ram lala ke liye chahe jail jaana ho, faansi pe latakna ho hum tayyar hain. Lekin mai jhooth bolne ko tayyar nahin hoon.” (We are ready to go to jail and even ready to be hanged up for Lord Rama, but won’t lie).
The former BJP MLA has recently owned up the responsibility for the demolition of Babri Mosque. On April 21, Vedanti had reportedly said that the veteran BJP leader LK Advani had no role in inciting a frenetic mob to raze the Babri Masjid in 1992. Speaking to media, he said, “He (Advani) had no role in this incident…I brought it down and ensured that it went down.” Vedanti along with 12 others have been accused by the CBI of conspiring to bring down the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
India Today website quoted the former BJP MLA saying, “I demolished and got demolished the disputed structure, the ruin that stood there. The accusations against L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia are wrong.”

On April 21, BJP said Vedanti is courageous to take the blame for party veterans who are facing conspiracy charges in the case. Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy told ANI, “He could also be a witness. It is courageous of him to take the rap for L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi. But we already know that Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and others are innocent and there was no conspiracy. It is just a matter of formality. Let the formal acquittal take place so that all these top leaders of the BJP can proudly say that all the conspiracies against them has failed.”
