Dangal box office collections: Something wrong? Cinemas hardly full, yet Aamir Khan film’s earnings skyrocketing!

Dangal box office collections: Aamir Khan is currently grabbing headlines for breaking a new record with each new day since the film’s release. As of Tuesday evening, the film’s earnings reached a staggering Rs 155 crore, knocking MS Dhoni: The Untold Story off from the second spot on the highest grossing films of the year. With such figures, you’d expect theatres to be packed – even on weekdays, since the earnings on both Monday and Tuesday have been over the Rs 20 crore mark. Yet, Sucheta Dalal recently raised the issue of Dangal not seeing the expected occupancy in theatres.

In a tweet today, she posted, “How come this happens with #aamirKhan movies? Cannot be a co-incidence. Last time, half of Regal was empty for PK on Christmas Day colaba.” Her statement came in response to a Dangal viewer’s observations, “@suchetadalal available.Still booked 2 tickets. When entered theater, around 15% seats still empty. Same strategy for promotion like #Pk 2/2.”

At the end of the day, figures/stats can maniplated at will, sans a credible watchdog – there is no stock market-type SEBI to keep people honest. And considering the hundreds of crores and huge reputations at stake, a lot of fixing is always alleged  – it is all a part of the larger Bollywood game in which the industry looks to keep its hierarchy in place. Dangal is not an exception, but we should remember this is all alleged, there are interested parties who want to bring  the high flyers to ground, and no proof is ever presented or even asked for.

It would hardly been the first time a story that made amazing headlines had next to no basis on true facts. And according to the tweet, PK already seems guilty of this. Is Aamir guilty of fudging numbers of his film’s performance at the box office? The idea awes and shocks fans. The performance records also adversely impact the work of all the other filmmakers and actors that come in second, third, fourth and so on to Dangal or for that matter Sultan, or Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Because for all we know, these films aren’t playing second fiddle to the movie after all. They may well be the real gems of 2016 box office. Maybe.

Exactly...even I also strongly believe that Dangal collections are fishy. I watched Dangal recently..there were only 2 people in the multiplex to watch the movie. In China how can they colle the 600 plus c s in 5 days. Sounds completely wrong. It's all cooked up stories. It's better Aamir should quit India and live in China for films. What a nonsense. We are not s to trust all these nonsense...There is a limit to everything. Bollywood is paying more for getting fake collection reports.

Dear friends..it's 100 confirmed that Dangal collections are fake. There was new in BBC regarding this fake promotions. The producers and Aamir khan himself is spending money to so easy news agencies to show this false figure only to save Bollywood from getting kicked off by Bahubali 2. Guys...it's shame on Aamir Khan.

I think report is not correct. I personally became unsuccessful to get three tickets for my family due to housefull theatre.

And why should we care what Sucheta Dalal has to say? It's understandable that we don't have any proof of the numbers acknowledged by the producers on box offices collections; but so does Sucheta Dalal of the occupancy in the theater she had been in.Who is she anyway? And why would producers pretend that the movie has earned more than it actually has? Wouldn't that require them to pay more on income tax?

Does FE think people are so gullible that they will take any nonsense like this write up? Should not this report be tagged as falsification and propaa?

On Tuesday I was in nagpur and went to see the film Dangal evening 6to 9 the movie Was houseful. I saw overwhelming response from audience, audience was so much involved in the film That when Geeta Phogat won at the climax and when National anthem Was pla in the film audience stood till the end of the anthem and gave Nara Bharatmata ki Jai. I think the film has connected well with the audience. Hats off to Aamir Khan & team.

I fail to comprehend the plausibility of this article. Dangal is one film that has unanimously garnered appreciation from the mes and cles alike. A rare feat indeed. Most people have watched this film and the ones who haven't still would. Without a doubt. That too at a movie theater. Numbers do get manited here and there which may or may not be the case with Dangal but undeniably the fact remains unchanged that this is a very successful film. Not just financially but by a large margin creatively too.

Such baseless ertions based on anecdotal evidence cannot be taken as the true picture. Just because some specific journalist and some particular member of the audience coincidentally happened to watch a show which was not full, doesn't falsify the fact that a lot of people are actually loving the movie and watching it with their friends and family. A man of Aamir Khan's stature does not need to falsify data to prove himself - He is a far more accomplished and respectable person and has no need to stoop to such levels. Just as an example of an equally baseless counter-argument, I would like to ert that I myself watched the movie in a packed theatre, and so did my friends...should this be enough to falsify the author's claims?

I liked the movie so much that have seen it twice till now and it has been difficult to get the tickets... Both the shows were houseful that too at different locations ... what I can about this report is .. totally false report.

My Dear "The Financial Express" : Your Reported has raised a very valuable doubt. The collection claimed by these anti-nationals of Bollywood is in collusion with the Cinema Hall owners by showing the collection as " Housefull " to make their Black money into white. Very simple method to convert the money they receive from Dawood Ebrahim in the stan.
