Coastal villages brought under World Bank aided project

A 12.59 crore World Bank aided underground power cable project will be implemented in the Union Territory to benefit all coastal villages.

A 12.59 crore World Bank aided underground power cable project will be implemented in the Union Territory to benefit all coastal villages.

The foundation stone for the project, coming under the Project Implementation Agency here, was laid by Chief Minister V Narayanasamy here today.

A release from the Agency said the underground cable scheme, being implemented under its Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction Project to benefit villages in Poornankuppam, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and Puduhukuppam hamlets.

As many as 1,470 domestic power connections and street lights will be brought under the new scheme, which will replace the low-tension overhead power lines and cover a total distance of 14 km, it said.
