Let’s take a look at key highlights of today’s trading session-
No trading on August 15
On Friday, August 15, as the country marks its 79th Independence Day, trading screens across the country will be taking a day off. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed for the day, with no activity in equities, derivatives, or the securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments.
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will stay shut for both its morning and evening sessions, while the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), India’s largest agri-commodity platform will also remain closed. This means traders in gold, crude oil, and agricultural futures will have to wait until the next session to resume activity.
Gainers in today’s trade
Among the Sensex heavyweights, Eternal, Infosys, Asian Paints, and Maruti were the top performers. Infosys, in particular, drew attention with a nearly 2% rise after announcing a joint venture with Australia’s Telstra. Wipro followed suit with a similar 2% gain.
Laggards in today’s trade
On the flip side, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ports, and Bharat Electronics were among the key laggards of the day.
Midday movers
Away from the main index, several stocks made notable intraday moves. Newgen Software rallied nearly 7%, making it one of the biggest tech gainers. Muthoot Finance hit a fresh 52-week high after posting strong Q1 results. Meanwhile, Vishal Mega Mart also touched a new 52-week high during the session.
Vodafone Idea hits new low
In contrast, telecom player Vodafone Idea slipped to a fresh 52-week low, hitting Rs 6.12 during intraday trade. The stock has been under pressure for weeks amid concerns over subscriber growth and financial stability.
