The wait is finally over for fans of the iconic duo Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj. On Wednesday, the trailer for their latest project, O’Romeo, was released, and it looks like a wild, blood-soaked ride through the streets of Mumbai. This marks the fourth time the pair has worked together, following their previous hits like Kaminey, and Haider.
A violent western in the heart of Mumbai
The three-minute trailer introduces us to a world that feels like a classic Western but is set firmly in the Mumbai underworld. Shahid Kapoor plays a terrifying gangster, looking far more rugged and dangerous than we’ve seen him in a long time.
The story takes a turn when Triptii Dimri, playing a woman in trouble, comes to him for help. However, the “damsel in distress” dynamic shifts when Shahid’s character falls for her, leading to a dark and messy romance.
A powerhouse cast
While Shahid and Triptii are the main focus, the trailer is full of other big names. Avinash Tiwary shows up as the villain, wearing a strange matador outfit. Reports say he took over this role after Randeep Hooda left the project. Famous veteran actors Nana Patekar and Farida Jalal also appear, and it looks like they have very important roles that give the movie more weight.
Disha Patani shows up for a flashy dance song, and though Vikrant Massey isn’t in the trailer, a note at the end confirms he has a special guest role. Many people believe the story is actually based on the real life of a gangster named Hussain Ustara from the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
O’Romeo release date
This movie is a major moment for both the director and the star. Vishal Bhardwaj hasn’t had a film in a real cinema since 2018, as he’s been busy making shows for Netflix and SonyLIV.
For Shahid Kapoor, the pressure is even higher. He hasn’t had a massive hit at the theaters since Kabir Singh back in 2019. His recent movies like Jersey and Deva didn’t do very well with ticket sales, so he really needs O’Romeo to win. The film releases on February 13, just before Valentine’s Day, where it will go head-to-head with another new movie called Tu Yaa Main.
