The ‘OG’ kings of comedy are back, and they aren’t playing around. After a long 14-year wait, the iconic duo of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan has reunited for Bhoot Bangla, and the box office is already screaming. On its second day, the horror-comedy showed a massive jump, proving that the duo’s vintage magic still has a massive pull at the ticket windows.
Massive Saturday box office surge for Bhoot Bangla
Following a solid Friday, Bhoot Bangla witnessed a significant growth in footfalls on Saturday. As per Sacnilk, the film raked in a domestic net of Rs 19.00 crore on Day 2 alone, across a staggering 11,513 shows. This brings the total India net collection to Rs 35.00 crore in just two days.
As per the gross numbers, the film has reached Rs 42.00 crore in India, according to Sacnilk. Globally, the craze is just as high, with overseas markets contributing Rs 18.50 crore in gross revenue so far. This pushes the worldwide gross collection to a whopping Rs 60.50 crore.
Akshay Kumar surpasses Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 box office collections
In what trade analysts are calling a major win for the ‘Khiladi,’ Bhoot Bangla has successfully managed to outshine the opening numbers of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. While the 2022 sequel earned Rs 14.50 crore on its first day, Bhoot Bangla has maintained a stronger grip on the box office from the jump.
The momentum actually started early with Thursday paid previews, which brought in Rs 3.50 crore, according to Sacnilk. This early buzz helped the film ‘dethrone’ recent competitors and set the stage for a blockbuster weekend.
Can Bhoot Bangla overrule Stree 2?
While the numbers are impressive, Bhoot Bangla still has some massive shoes to fill in the horror-comedy genre. Currently, the film sits behind Maddock Films’ titans like Stree 2, which opened at a historic Rs 55 crore, and Thamma, which debuted at Rs 24 crore at the box office.
However, with Sunday’s bookings looking even stronger, the industry is watching closely to see if Akshay can bridge that gap.
The magic of the Priyadarshan reunion
The hype surrounding Bhoot Bangla isn’t just about the scares; it’s about the nostalgia. Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar have previously delivered cult classics like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, and the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
By bringing back the legendary Rajpal Yadav with Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jisshu Sengupta, the film has successfully tapped into the family audiences segment. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films, the movie is currently the top choice for moviegoers this week.
