A commerce graduate from Lucknow University, Sanjay Seth claims he has been picked to “represent the business community in Rajya Sabha”
Lucknow’s leading realtor Sanjay Seth (55), who has been picked by the Samajwadi Party as one of its Rajya Sabha candidates, has developed residential and commercial buildings at prominent places in the city. Interestingly, his company bagged prime projects under both SP as well as BSP regimes.
A native of Unnao district, Seth is developing SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s dream project — Jai Prakash Narayan International Centre — in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar. Seth’s company, Shalimar Corp Limited, has contract of around Rs 580 crore for civil and electricity works in the project. Seth’s company, which runs out of a plush office in Gomti Nagar, is also building multi-levels parking in Noida and Ghaziabad at present, said sources. Both contracts were won during the current SP regime.

A commerce graduate from Lucknow University, Seth claims he has been picked to “represent the business community in Rajya Sabha”. Sources said that Seth is close to Mulayam’s younger son, Prateek Yadav, a factor that played a key role in bringing him close to Mulayam.
Seth’s name remained in controversy last year after he was selected by SP as an MLC candidate. In March this year, the Governor rejected Seth’s name, along with four others, as not being worthy of nomination. Sending back Seth’s file, the Governor had sought details about the I-T search on Shalimar Corp offices. “It is a normal search procedure for any company,” Seth said after his nomination.
Seth’s office revealed he started working in Lucknow as a real estate developer in 1985 by setting up ‘SAS Hotels and Properties Private Limited’. It was later renamed as Shalimar Corp.
Seth is also UP’s president of Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India. Shalimar Corp Director Khalid Masood said in a statement that the group is a conglomerate having a strong presence in public sector infra projects in Haryana, Delhi and UP. The group has upcoming projects of over Rs 15 million sq ft across major cities in UP, Punjab, and Delhi NCR.
