Delhi and Gurugram authorities have issued traffic advisories for January 22, warning commuters of delays and restrictions in parts of the NCR because of Republic Day rehearsals. Delhi Traffic Police has notified restrictions around Vijay Chowk during rehearsal hours, whereas a separate Delhi and Gurugram notice highlights time-bound entry curbs for medium and heavy goods vehicles.

The Delhi Traffic Police stated that moderate to heavy traffic is likely to occur in and around Vijay Chowk and nearby corridors during the restriction periods. Commuters have been advised to plan accordingly and follow on-the-ground instructions from traffic personnel for smoother movement.

Routes to avoid in Delhi today

As per a Delhi Traffic social media post, the curbs are in view of rehearsals for Beating Retreat on January 22, with certain curtailments around Vijay Chowk from 1600-1930 hrs. Commuters will need to avoid areas like Raisina Road, Rafi Marg, Kartavya Path crossing, Krishna Menon Marg, Dara Shikoh Road, Sunehri Masjid area and Krishi Bhawan roundbaout side, as heavy congestion is expected. Motorists have been advised to use alternative corridors like Ring Road, Minto Road, Aurobindo Marg, and Ridge Road to avoid congestion in central Delhi.

The advisory also urges commuters to choose public transport to reduce congestion and cooperate with the police stationed at key intersections. For all updates and assistance, Delhi Traffic Police has also shared helpline numbers-1095, 011-25844444 and WhatsApp—8750871493—along with its official online channels.

Check vehicle restrictions in Gurugram today

An important traffic update for Delhi and Gurugram states that only medium and heavy goods vehicles will be restricted as part of the Republic Day program. It says that these vehicles will not be permitted to enter Delhi/Gurugram during two windows: Jan 22 (5:00 pm) to Jan 23 (1:30 pm) and Jan 25 (5:00 pm) to Jan 26 (1:30 pm).

Alternate routes to beat the traffic

For daily commuters heading for Central Delhi, the advisory is important, as Vijay Chowk could see traffic build-up during the rehearsal period. Taking a longer but clearer loop through Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg and Minto Road may help in avoiding congestion. Those using cabs or personal vehicles have been advised to opt for public transport to ease the pressure on the roads in the restricted area.

For travellers on NCR freight routes, the late evening and overnight movement may be affected on January 22, and operators may need to reschedule trips to avoid getting stuck at entry points.
