Uttar Pradesh Minorities Affair Minister Mohsin Raza on Monday said that minorities in the state should be given benefits as per requirement, news agency ANI reported. Raza added that unecessary quotas to minorites should be avoided and said that only justified benefits will be given in future. “Things should be given to minorities as per requirement, quotas shouldn’t be decided unnecessarily, benefits to minorities will be given in justified manner, (Zarurat ke hisab se chiz pahunchna chahiye,na ki bina wajeh ke quota tay kar dein.Jayaz tarah se minorities ko labh pahunchega)” Mohsin Raza said.

Days ago, Mohsin Raza had said rampant corruption has been detected in the affairs of the Shia Waqf Board and the Sunni Waqf Board. “The probe carried out by the Waqf Council of India has put the role of former UP cabinet minister Azam Khan and Chairman Shia Waqf Board Waseem Rizvi under the scanner,” Mohsin Raza had said.

“In the past 10 years, there have been instances of corruption involving the Waqf properties. The report by the Waqf Council is with the chief minister. Now he will decide, which agency will probe the anomalies. In some of the observations, a CBI inquiry has been sought,” Raza said.

“The anomalies involving the Waqf properties stands between Rs 500 crore and Rs 1,000 crore. The Waqf properties whose count stands at 7,500, has reduced to 3,000 in the past few years. The million dollar question is where have the rest of the properties gone?” Raza asked.

Raza, on his first day as cabinet minister, reprimanded some officers in his office when he saw the photograph of Samajwadi party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav with his party leader Azam Khan hanging on the wall just behind his chair. Raza, who entered his office for the first time, was taken aback to see a photograph of Samajwadi party (SP) supremo Mulayam. Clearly displeased, the minister, who was accompanied by several government officials and media persons asked his official what the picture was doing there.

Raza pointed hands towards the picture and asked an official standing beside him, “Yeh tasveer kyun lagi hui hai? Apko pata hai kiski sarkar hai?” (Why is this photograph here? Do you know whose government is in power now). When the officials tried to explain by saying he had been waiting for the instructions to remove it. The minister asked why he was waiting for the order. “Kya adesh ka intezaar kar rhe the? Apko pata nhi hai ab sarkar kiski hai?” (Why were you waiting for the orders (to remove the picture)? Don’t you who has come to power in the state?)

Raza is the lone Muslim minister in Yogi Adityanath-led government and has been given charge of Minority Affairs in the state cabinet along with holding the charge as minister of science and electronics department.
