PM Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Israel, which just concluded. However, something new has just emerged. Prime Minister Modi has a namesake in Israel and that too a city. And more than that, it is dubbed in a manner that reflects the optimism and drive PM Modi has so frequently invoked to power-up India. A young town in the suburb of Tel Aviv that is seeking to emerge as ”City of the Future” is remarkably called Modi’in. Modi’in Maccabim Re’ut is a fast developing city in central Israel about 35 km south-east of the capital Tel Aviv. Froim Ditza, head of public diplomacy, Embassy of Israel has tweeted the photo of the road sign which reads Modi’in. Although the name has nothing to do with Modi, as the official website of Modi’in, the cornerstone of which was laid in 1993, says that it is the “City of the Future”, reports PTI.The city was named after the ancient city of Modi’in, the home of the Hashmonaim, the dynasty that personified the glorious heritage and heroism of Israel,”. But the coincidence is spectacular and guaranteed to draw a smile and is surely the perfect ammunition for the twitterati to go gaga about.
Rabbi Akiva, who has been in India for 6 years and has visited the town before moving here told PTI that, “It is a young city which is growing very fast with a youthful population and the “in” in the name of the town could well stand for India,” Rabbi playfully said. He added, “Israelis were “happy” about Modi’s visit to their country”.
