Today Eden Gardens saw the Netherlands team bringing in another major upset in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, after they defeated Bangladesh by 87 runs even when the target set for the latter was relatively low.

Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to bat first. Batting first, the Netherlands put up 229 runs on the scoreboard, losing all 10 wickets. For the team, skipper Scott Edwards and Wesley Barresi scored the most. While Scott scored 68 runs,  Barresi scored 41. In the first innings, Bangladesh’s Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan took two wickets each, while skipper Shakib Al Hasan took one.

The Netherlands went through the first innings painfully slow and it seemed that Bangladesh would not have much trouble going past their set target.

However, the Dutch team looked in no mood to let the game slip away. Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede struck with a vengeance to thrash Bangladesh by 87 runs. The Bangladeshi team lost six of their wickets even before they could reach 100.  None of the batsmen coil stay on the crease for long in the face of the attack from the Dutch bowlers. Van Meekeren took four wickets for 23, while de Leede took two wickets for 25 runs. Aryan Dutt, Logan van Beek and Colin Ackermann took one wicket each.

Bangladesh was limited to 142 runs and lost all their wickets. With this loss, Bangladesh’s chances of making it to the semifinals are effectively over. This is their fifth consecutive loss in six games.
