Sarfaraz Khan may have played his last match in India colours in 2024 but his current form in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy is likely to force the selectors consider the power hitter in the national side. In Thursday’s 50-over fixture against Punjab at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur, the Mumbai batter smashed a blistering 62 runs off just 20 deliveries.

15-ball half-century, 30 runs off 1 over, Sarfaraz smashes List A record

Sarfaraz batted at a strike rate of a scarcely believable 310. He scored 7 boundaries and 5 sixes on his way the fastest-ever List A half-century by an Indian batter. In the process, he scored 30 runs off Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma‘s single over, smashing him for 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, 4 off his six legal deliveries.

Mumbai lose to Punjab by 1 run

Despite Sarfaraz’s quickfire innings, Mumbai succumbed to a 1-run defeat. Punjab batted first and posted 216 runs in 45.1 overs. Anmolpreet Singh scored 57 runs off 75 balls after which Ramanpdeep Singh too scored 72 runs off 74 balls.

In response, Angkrish Raghuvanshi made 32 runs off 23 balls, Musheer Khan chipped in with a 21-ball 22 and got Mumbai off to a steady start. Abhishek could only make 8 runs and Punjab had got off to a poor start but they recovered to manage what eventually turned out to be a fighting total.

Shreyas Iyer to chipped in with a 34-ball 45. However, Suryakumar Yadav (12 runs off 15 balls), Shivam Dube (6 balls, 12 runs), Hardik Tamore (15 balls, 15 runs) could not make a significant score. In the end, despite going at a good rate, Mumbai were bowled out in 26.2 overs, getting all out for 215 runs, losing the match by 1 run.
