Jana Nayagan release date delay: Jana Nayagan, touted to be Thalapathy Vijay’s last film, initially scheduled to release on January 9, is facing an unprecedented legal battle. In an interview, SA Chandrasekhar, father of the Jana Nayagan star, has finally broken his silence on the film’s delay, alleging political involvement and ‘blackmailing’. The film is stuck in limbo for more than three weeks now.
Vijay’s father acknowledged that the actor will face pressure, given his entry into politics but he wasn’t worried about films anymore. “Vijay is no longer just an actor,” Chandrasekhar remarked while interacting with reporters, as per India Today.
Vijay’s father takes a jibe at Tamil Nadu politics
Addressing the media, Chandrasekhar claimed that Vijay’s political journey will not be derailed by troubled politics. “Dravidian parties have ruled Tamil Nadu for more than 60 years,” he added further. Addressing Jana Nayagan’s disputed release date, he shared that everyone was well aware of the reason behind the delay. “The people know what happened in Karur. Vijay is not afraid of anything. His chances of success are bright,” he added.
Attributing Vijay’s contribution to politics, Chandrasekhar praised and said,” “After Vijay entered politics, young people and women are discussing politics. They are more articulate than me.” He emphasised that the delay is politically motivated, and not only because of creative or commercial reasons.
“Films should not be used to blackmail Vijay politically,” added the filmmaker, reported India Today. He questioned the state of media freedom and the independent portrayal in films, often being the victim of political pressure and ideologies.
Jana Nayagan Madras HC hearing: Latest update
Vijay’s Jana Nayagan found itself in legal trouble with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) where an independent complaint challenged Justice PT Asha’s clearance order. It questioned the issuance of the U/A 16+ certification, which was set to be received ahead of the Pongal release.
More than 25 edits were suggested, all of which were accommodated, but the complaint derailed the release, given the missing censor certificate. However, in a long proceeding at the Madras High Court on January 27, they referred the case back to the single judge bench, after reserving the previous order. With the release date of Jana Nayagan still hanging by a thread, makers KVN Productions and Vijay fans are eagerly waiting for the final verdict on Jana Nayagan’s release date.
