In a bid to make women capable of defending themselves, a 18-year-old boy from Hyderabad has designed a special shoe that will give assaulters an electric shock. Siddharth Mandala, who made the electric shoe, said it will also send out an alert message to the nearby police station and family members when there is any danger. The shoe inflicts a 0.1 amp power shock. Mandala said, “All a woman needs to do is ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged. When the shoe makes contact with an attacker’s body, the attacker will be electrocuted,” as per the Times of India. He used the concept called the ‘piezoelectric effect’ while designing the shoe. A unique circuit board in the shoe uses footsteps to charge itself. “The more the user walks, the more energy is stored in the shoe’s rechargeable battery, ” he told TOI.
“I was 12 years old when the Delhi rape incident took place. I remember my mom joining the march for the Nirbhaya. Then I thought why I shouldn’t work on something productive rather than playing games, I have taken it as a challenge I thought it as a game. I explained my concept to my friend Abhishek and we started it. While testing it I got electric shocks and my friend also received an injury. But, keeping all aside we have made it successful,” Mandala was quoted as saying by ANI.
The idea behind this shoe was was that it will be with woman every time because they can forget to carry pepper spray or electrical devices but they will surely wear footwear while moving out.
