A couple was arrested by the police on Tuesday for stealing a car after being inspired by movie characters Bunty and Babli in the Janakpuri area of New Delhi. The accused, identified as Sandeep Munna and Reena, both aged 27 years, were residents of Delhi’s Palam, as reported by ANI.

According to police, they received a PCR call at 10:46 PM on February 22 about a car being taken away by an individual in the PS Janakpuri area. During the inquiry, the complainant reported that he had offered a lift to an unknown couple for assistance.

After providing a lift to the unknown couple, the complainant briefly left his car for personal reasons, only to return and discover it missing. The couple conspired and took away the owner’s car, who had offered them a lift after observing them in a needy condition at night. The complainant also mentioned that his laptop, which was in the car, was stolen.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered in the matter under IPC sections 379 and 34.

The police formed a team and arrested the accused through the analysis of CCTV footage, Call Detail Records (CDRs), and other digital footprints, the team arrested the accused, Sandeep Munna. The stolen car was also recovered at his instance.

Sandeep revealed that his friend Reena was with him during the commission of the crime. During the further course of the investigation, co-accused Reena was arrested and a stolen laptop was also recovered.

The police stated that Sandeep Munna and Reena, the accused individuals, were residing together in the Uttam Nagar area of West Delhi. Both were addicted to alcohol and lacked a source of income even to pay the rent for their flat, leading them to plan this theft.
