Nationwide outrage over 2 women paraded naked in Manipur; PM, CJI condemn incident, 4 men arrested

The grinding violence that has roiled Manipur for more than two months burst onto the national centrestage on Thursday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CJI D Y Chandrachud expressed deep anguish over a graphic video of two disrobed women being brutalised by a mob, calling the incident “shameful” and “unacceptable”. Punjab Cong leaders meet governor, urge him to press Centre to release Rs 10,000 crore for rain-hit state

Punjab’s leaders from the Congress party met with Governor Banwarilal Purohit in Chandigarh. They asked the Governor to request the Central Government to provide Rs 10,000 crore to help Punjab recover from the damage caused by heavy rains and flooding. The delegation included Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, former speaker Rana K P Singh, and former MLA Gurkirat Singh Kotli.

J&K: Pilgrims leave for Amarnath Yatra from Pantha Chowk base camp in Srinagar

A fresh batch of pilgrims left for the Amarnath Yatra from Pantha Chowk base camp in Srinagar on Thursday amid tight security. The 62-day-long Amarnath Yatra, which began on July 1 will culminate on August 31, 2023. “A total of 2,29,221 pilgrims have performed darshan at the Holy Cave in Amarnath since the beginning of Yatra on July 1,” a statement issued by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations said on July 16. UP woman commits suicide over dowry harassment

A 22 year old woman, married in February hanged herself in her in-laws house in Sagarpali village, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. It is alleged that the woman was being harassed for dowry since the marriage. The police had arrested her husband and her in-laws.

Bail extended to Brij Bhushan, accused of sexual harassment of Indian wrestlers

An interim bail granted on Tuesday for two days has been extended to regular bail by a New Delhi court to Chief of Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Singh who has been accused of sexual harassment. The bail has put some limitation on his movement while granting bail.

Seema Haider case investigation meets Noida Police since UP Anti-Terrorist Squad involved

Central investigation agencies held a meeting with Noida Police with regard to illegal immigrant, Seema Haider from Pakistan and her relationship with an Indian man, Sachin Meena from Greater Noida. The local court had granted bail but Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad questioned Seema’s relationship that has lead to the involvement of Noida Police.

ISRO successfully performs fourth orbit-raising manoeuvre of Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft

Lok Sabha adjourns after opposition revolts over violence in Manipur

The proceedings of Lok Sabha have adjourned today after the opposition started noisy protests and calling amid the meeting over the ongoing violence in Manipur. The opposition members were shouting slogans like “Manipur Manipur” and “Manipur is burning” to which the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi confirmed a reply by Home Minister Amit Shah for the same.

Kuno cheeta deaths

Almost a week after the eighth cheeta died at Kuno Reserve, the Narendra Modi government has told the Supreme Court that that the death rate is in anticipated range. The Centre says that death of 50 per cent cheetahs at the reserve is not ‘alarming’, a Live Law report said.

Delhi man get electrocuted while on treadmill

A 24-year-old man from Delhi, identified as Saksham Pruthi, was electrocuted while running on a treadmill at a gym in Delhi’s Rohini. Saksham was a BTech graduate and worked at a company in Gurugram. The post-mortem report confirms the cause of death as electrocution which was then informed to the family. SC directs Centre, state government to act on Manipur video

The Supreme Court said it is “deeply disturbed” by the video of two women being sexually assaulted and paraded naked in Manipur. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said ‘very little’ time will be given to the government to act or else it will step in and take action. (READ MORE)

PM Modi calls Manipur women assault ‘shameful’

Fatal road accident in Ahmedabad kills 9

A fatal road accident in which two vehicles collided occurred on a flyover near ISKCON temple on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway after which 12 people were taken to hospital and 9 were declared dead. A speeding car ploughed into a crowd present near the accident site which injured several others. Among the dead was a constable and a Home Guard jawan who had arrived at the spot after the first accident.

Landslide in Raigad kills 5, many feared trapped

A massive landslide has been reported at a village in Maharashtra’s Raigad. So far five people have reportedly died in the incident while many are still feared trapped. Four NDRF teams have been engaged in rescue work, an official said. Out of around 50 houses in the village 17 were buried under the landslide which followed the torrential rains in the area.
