A techie, who is an IIM MBA graduate, has turned to Reddit for answers after receiving a job offer of Rs 38 lakh per annum. No, he didn’t have a counteroffer. He was curious if at all he should accept the offer because he felt the compensation might be lower than what he deserved.
But why did this question even cross his mind? Well, the techie thinks that his peers, with similar years of experience and doing an MBA from a top business school in the country, were offered a higher salary. This comparison left him wondering if he was being undervalued.
‘Am I being underpaid?’
“38 LPA all fixed in Delhi-NCR with 7+ years and IIM MBA. Am I being underpaid?” read the title of his Reddit post.
In the post, he admitted feeling disappointed, noting that he has been unemployed for the past three months. “Feeling let down and a bit sad. I think I failed at the negotiation, as I have been unemployed for 3 months.
The techie further expressed, “Grateful, yes. But also can’t shake the feeling that I might be behind compared to peers, especially when I hear numbers flying around on this sub,” before asking, “Is this a solid place to be for my background and market, or am I underplaying my worth?”
He went on to ask the community for an honest assessment – whether the offer was reasonable given his background and the current market, or if he was selling himself short. He described his post as a request for a “reality check”.
