Punjab Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti Chunav Results 2025 Live Updates: Vote counting is currently underway for the Punjab Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections that were held on Sunday. The counting began at 8 am on Wednesday at 154 centres across 141 locations in the state.

The polling was held on December 14 to elect members of 347 zones of 22 zila parishads and 2,838 zones of 153 panchayat samitis. About 48% of voters had turned up on the day of polling.

When are the results expected?

Since the voting was done using ballot papers, officials from the State Election Commission have said that the counting could take more time than usual. The final results are expected late in the afternoon or at night.

As counting began, Opposition parties raised complaints, claiming their workers and polling agents were stopped from reaching the counting centres. In Patiala, Shiromani Akali Dal workers accused AAP leaders of trying to block their workers from accessing a centre on Nabha Road.

With the Punjab Assembly elections due in about 14 months, the local body polls were held in a tense political climate. These elections are seen as important since parties are contesting under their own symbols and are keen to build momentum ahead of the next Assembly race.

Key Battle in Punjab

Candidates from all major political parties including the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP, took part in the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections.

The Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal had accused the ruling AAP on December 14 of serious irregularities during the voting process. Earlier, both parties had also attacked the Bhagwant Mann government, claiming it misused state machinery to stop their candidates from filing nominations or to get their nomination papers rejected.
