Las Vegas shooting: In the deadliest gun attack in the US history, a gunman on Monday killed at least 50 people and left over 400 injured. Identified as Stephen Paddock, the gunman opened fire on a crowd of 24,000. Paddock is believed to be the only person involved in the incident. No terrorism link has been established so far. The police claimed that a number of firearms have been recovered from his residence. Unfortunately, the number of casualties are likely to go up. As this is the deadliest attack in terms of number of deceased people, we take a flashback of the 5 worst incidents of gun attacks in US history:
Orlando Shootings: 29-year-old Omar Saddiqui Mateen opened fire at the crowd inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando. The incident took place on June 12 and left 49 people killed and more than 50 others injured. Mateen was shot dead by police and hostages freed.
Virginia Tech: The incident came 10 years ago when a 23-year-old student, Seung-Hui Cho, gunned down 32 people and then committed suicide. The incident took place at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on April 16, 2007.
Sandy Hook: Adam Lanza, a US national, killed 27 people on December 14, 2012. The incident took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Children aged six and seven were among the victims. Lanza also killed himself after the incident. Later, his mother was also found dead with a gunshot wound.
California McDonald’s: 41-year-old James Huberty opened fire at a McDonald’s outlet in San Ysidro in California on July 18, 1984. 21 people were killed in the incident.
Marine tower: A former US Marine, Joseph Whitman, killed around 18 people when he climbed a clock tower at the University of Texas and opened fire on August 1, 1966.
