Landmark act for urban land titles: In a landmark move, Rajasthan became the first state in India to enact a law on property titles. The passing of the Bill is a significant step towards resolving the murky situation in courts where an overwhelming majority of unresolved disputes are related to the lack of guaranteed title to property. Maharashtra too is considering formulating a legislation on the same lines and aims to use Pune as a pilot project.

Water trains for Latur: Five trains carrying water have reached the drought-hit Latur in Maharashtra. Each train carried ten wagons of the precious liquid and the capacity was 54,000 litres of water per wagon.

Renewables get a thumbs up from banks: According to the ministry of new and renewable energy, loans worth Rs 70,000 crore have been disbursed by 40 major banks and NBFCs, which also gave a commitment to finance 78.75 GW or 78,750 MW of renewable energy projects over five years.

App power for rural electrification: To ensure transparency and monitor progress of rural electrification projects, the power ministry launched the Grameen Vidyutikaran App (GarvApp) last October. It provides status of electrification and allows citizens to adopt a village, district or state. Notifications are sent in case of changes in the status of the adopted area.

Tapping into ports’ potential: The government is planning to invest upto R50,000 crore to construct six to eight new ports. According to the shipping minister, the present 12 major ports delivered R4,200 crore in profits in 2015-16 and there has been a 30% improvement in their efficiency.

Saving up on water: In the wake of the expected extreme dry weather this summer, the ministry of environment has instructed new thermal power plant managers to use at least 30% less water than existing ones. Operating plants have been directed to reduce water usage by 10%.

Energetic growth for wind power sector: New installations touched a record high in 2015-16 for the wind power sector. Madhya Pradesh bagged most of the new capacities followed by Rajasthan, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
