As the new year begins, crores of farmers across India are once again looking towards the next payment under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. The focus is now on the 22nd instalment, but this time there’s a clear warning from the government. If you miss a few key formalities, your Rs 2,000 instalment may get stuck.
Under the PM Kisan scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 every year, paid in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each directly into their bank accounts. So far, 21 instalments have already been released, and farmers are now waiting for the next instalment.
When is the PM Kisan 22nd instalment likely to be released?
According to media reports, the 22nd instalment is expected around February or March 2026. However, the government has not announced an official date yet. Farmers are advised to keep checking the PM Kisan portal regularly for updates so that no important information is missed.
To recall, PM Narendra Modi released the 21st instalment on November 19 from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Nearly 9 crore farmers received over Rs 18,000 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) on that day.
The biggest change this time: Farmer ID
The most important change ahead of the 22nd instalment is the mandatory Farmer ID. Earlier, completing e-KYC was often enough. Now, the government has made it clear that farmers without a unique Farmer ID may not receive the next instalment, even if their e-KYC is done.
The Farmer ID acts as a digital identity for farmers. It links land records, crop details and other farming-related information. The aim is to ensure that only genuine and eligible farmers benefit from the scheme and to prevent misuse.
If a farmer has not yet created their Farmer ID, there is a real risk that the Rs 2,000 payment may be put on hold.
e-KYC is still compulsory
Along with Farmer ID, e-KYC remains mandatory. Farmers who have not completed e-KYC may also see their payments stopped.
There are multiple ways to complete e-KYC:
-Online through the PM Kisan website using OTP-based verification
-By visiting a nearby CSC centre for biometric KYC
-Through the PM Kisan mobile app, which now offers face authentication for smartphone users
-Once e-KYC is completed, the status usually reflects on the portal within 24 hours.
Other reasons why the next PM Kisan instalment can get stuck
Sometimes, instalments are blocked even when e-KYC is done. Common reasons include:
-Mismatch in Aadhaar and bank account details
-Incorrect name spelling
-Closed or inactive bank account
-Changed IFSC code
-Bank KYC not updated
Land-related issues can also cause problems. Pending mutation, outdated land records, or land disputes may show a farmer as ineligible in the system. In such cases, details should be corrected as soon as possible.
What should farmers do if payment is delayed?
If the instalment is delayed or the status shows an error, farmers can visit the CSC centre, contact their bank, or reach out to the local agriculture department.
The government has also set up helplines for assistance: Dial 1800-115-526 or 011-23381092. You can also write on – Email: pmkisan-ict@gov.in.
Quick checklist to get Rs 2,000 on time
To ensure the 22nd instalment reaches your account without trouble, complete e-KYC, get your farmer ID created, check bank account and Aadhaar details and verify land records.
The PM Kisan scheme, launched in 2019 and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, has already paid over Rs 3.70 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmer families, making it one of the world’s largest DBT programmes.
