O’Romeo Movie Reviews: Shahid Kapoor returns to the big screen in a fiery avatar after Deva (2025) in Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘O’ Romeo’. A tattooed underworld don with a love interest, Shahid Kapoor has won the internet’s nod of approval. While some viewers opine that he carried the whole show, others call Dimri’s ‘watchable’.
With a paycheck of nearly Rs 40 crore, Kapoor delivered an action-packed performance, which reminded netizens of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. But with adding a Bhawadwaj twist to it, his action-romance drama lands in the sweet-spot between. However, there are several O’Romeo first reviews which call it ‘boring’ and more.
O’Romeo cheap attempt to copy Animal?
Taking to X (formerly Twiiter), a @Tripathiverse wrote, “O Romeo is nothing but a cheap attempt to copy Animal,” while Dimri was criticised for not having enough spark, but only snazz.
On the other hand, a fan commended Shahid Kapoor’s hardened dedication to transform into the protagonist he played. As per reports, his tattoos took over 2 hours every day before his shoot! Featuring veteran stars like Farida Jalal and Nana Patekar, O’Romeo also brought back some much-missed faces back on the silver screen, even shown them in an persona no one imagined.
“Dark an beautifully crafted,” wrote a user, while another opined, “You don’t even realise when the film reaches the climax. That’s how gripping the screenplay is.” @Anujprajapati11 further adds, “The action sequences are kick-ass and staged beautifully for the big screen. Add to that the background score which keeps elevating every moment.” The O’Romeo song, Jalwa Mere Aashiq, has been praised significantly, too.
Keeping you at the edge of your seat till the last 20 minutes, O’Romeo pits Kapoor against Nana Patekar, with exemplary supporting performances from Avinash Tiwary and Vikrat Masse, said several fans online. “Shahid Kapoor carried Ustra with insane control and intensity,” wrote another fan as he added, “he completely owns the space of masculinity and intensity on screen.”
O’Romeo has also managed to Shanaya Kapoor’s ‘Tu Yaa Main’, a dark romantic drama. Disappeared into the sidelines, the Shahid Kapoor headliner also faces Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi’s ‘Wuthering Heights’.
