Following the huge success of the first two films, Rani Mukerji is finally back on the big screen on Friday, January 30, 2026, with the release of Mardaani 3. Produced by Yash Raj Films, this sequel sees the actress return to her most famous role as the tough cop Shivani Shivaji Roy. This project is extra special for Rani because it marks her 30th year in the Indian film industry. It is also her first movie in three years, as she was last seen in the emotional drama Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway back in 2023.

A much darker story and powerful cast

This time around, the makers are promising a movie that is much more intense than the previous ones. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, Mardaani 3 is being called the most brutal chapter of the series so far. A big change in this sequel is the villain. Instead of a male antagonist, Shivani Shivaji Roy will face a powerful female enemy named Amma.

The character of Amma is played by Mallika Prasad, a highly respected theater artist who brings a cold and scary energy to the screen. She plays the head of a massive criminal network that Shivani has to bring down. The movie also features Janki Bodiwala, known for her role in Shaitaan, in a key part that adds to the high-stakes drama.

Mardaani 3 cast salaries

While the production house has not officially released the numbers, several industry reports have shared details about what the actors were paid. Rani Mukerji, who leads the film, reportedly charged around Rs 7 crore. Janki Bodiwala is said to have received Rs 1 crore, while Mallika Prasad was reportedly paid Rs 40 lakh for her role as the main villain. It is important to remember that these figures are based on media reports and have not been confirmed by the film’s team.

The Plot: A race against time

The story takes place in Mumbai and focuses on a terrifying case of human trafficking. Shivani Shivaji Roy, who is now part of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), is on a mission to find 93 girls who have gone missing in just 90 days.

As she digs deeper, she discovers a ‘beggar mafia’ that kidnaps children and forces them into a world of crime. The investigation is a race against time, as Shivani and her team try to stop the trafficking ring before any more girls are lost. The film promises a mix of heavy action and emotional moments, staying true to its goal of highlighting real-world issues.
