A fire broke out at an eye hospital in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area on Wednesday (May 5), officials reported. According to a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official, there have been no reports of injuries so far. The fire at Eye7 Chaudhary Eye Centre was reported at 11:30 am, and 12 fire tenders were dispatched to the scene.

The firefighting operation is currently ongoing, the official added. The hospital was situated near the Vinobapuri metro station in the Lajpat Nagar area of New Delhi.

Police suspect that a short circuit on the ground floor of the two-storey building caused the fire. Officials reported that those inside the hospital quickly evacuated as soon as the fire started.

Several videos of the hospital fire are circulating on social media, with one showing the building engulfed in flames and thick plumes of smoke rising into the sky.
