A Delhi court on Thursday reserved its verdict on the regular bail plea filed by jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy.

Judge Niyay Bindu of the Rouse Avenue Court concluded hearings spanning two days and reserved the verdict for today. The court also withheld a ruling on Kejriwal’s plea seeking permission for his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, to join virtual proceedings during his medical examination in jail.

Kejriwal was arrested on allegations of participating in a conspiracy to launder money, purportedly received as kickbacks in exchange for deliberately leaving loopholes in the then Delhi liquor policy of 2021-22.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had alleged that these loopholes were designed to favour specific liquor vendors, with the alleged bribes being used to finance the AAP’s election campaign in Goa. However, the AAP supremo had strongly denied these accusations, countering that the ED was engaged in extortion.

Representing the ED, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju opposed Kejriwal’s bail application and challenged his assertion that there is no money trail or evidence supporting the agenf hotel of Arvind Kejriwal. He was handling their Goa election,” ASG Raju submitted.

“It is not as if ED is doing the investigation in the air. We have concrete evidence,” Raju said today that the ED possesses photos of currency notes allegedly involved in the kickback money.

The ASG further mentioned Arvind Kejriwal’s stay at a seven-star hotel in Goa, arguing that the expenses were covered using kickback money.

“In the same Goa campaign, we are saying, kickback money was used … Chanpreet Singh (AAP volunteer, who is also an accused in the excise policy case) received a huge cash amount and he paid the bill o3, after rejecting his plea for interim bail on medical grounds.

Previously, Kejriwal had obtained interim bail from the Supreme Court to campaign for Lok Sabha elections but returned to custody on June 2. Recently, a trial court extended his judicial custody until July 3, after rejecting his plea for interim bail on medical grounds.
