To improve road safety and strengthen highway patrolling, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to introduce upgraded Incident Management Services. The new guidelines include detailed specifications for the ‘Rajmarg Saathi’ Route Patrolling Vehicles (RPVs), covering their design, functions, technology, components, and manpower requirements.
Advanced Features for Efficiency
The updated RPVs are engineered to inspect National Highway stretches, monitor conditions, and respond swiftly to emergencies. Unlike the earlier versions, which featured an open rear space for equipment storage, the new RPVs are equipped with a closed cabinet system. This design incorporates dedicated compartments and shelves for organizing tools and inventory, enabling quicker access during emergencies and reducing delays caused by disorganized storage.
A standout feature of the upgraded RPVs is the integration of dashboard cameras with AI-powered video analytics. These cameras can detect cracks, potholes, and other elements such as vehicles, pedestrians, road signs, and infrastructure assets. The captured footage and road distress data will be collected weekly and integrated into the NHAI One application, ensuring more efficient road maintenance.
The new guidelines for ‘Rajmarg Saathi’ RPVs provide detailed specifications for vehicle design, equipment, and manpower. To maintain optimal service fitness, RPVs will be replaced after covering 3,00,000 kilometers or three years of operation. Emphasis has also been placed on their branding and visibility, with high-visibility designs and advanced communication tools ensuring effective highway patrol services.
Additionally, the uniforms for patrolling personnel have been redesigned in a brilliant blue color with reflective jackets and authority logos, enhancing their professional appearance and easy identification.
