Forget Greenland — US President Donald Trump has the internet buzzing again, and this time it’s not about tariffs. At Davos 2026, where he surprisingly stepped back from his European tariffs threat, he was spotted with a bruised hand, clearly visible in daylight photos. Since returning to office, Trump’s moves on tariffs, immigration, and, of course, his health have often made Frontpage headlines. But this time, it’s a blue injury on his hand that’s hogging the spotlight — and social media hasn’t wasted a second turning it into a guessing game.

On Thursday, Trump cleared the air about the noticeable bruise on his left hand, saying it happened after he accidentally hit it on furniture while in Switzerland, and then blamed Aspirin.

Trump explains bruise on his hand

Speaking to CNN’s Samantha Waldenberg aboard Air Force One, Trump brushed off the concerns, saying, “I clipped it on the table,” he said. He added that he applied some medication afterwards. “I put a little — what do they call it? — cream on it. But I clipped it,” Trump said.

Earlier the same day, the White House also addressed questions around the bruise. According to officials, the injury happened during a signing event at the Board of Peace meeting in Davos. “At the Board of Peace event today in Davos, President Trump hit his hand on the corner of the signing table, causing it to bruise,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.

Aspirin makes bruising worse, Trump says

Trump also said that the bruising may look worse because he takes a high dose of aspirin every day, something his doctors have mentioned before. “I would say, take aspirin if you like your heart, but don’t take aspirin if you don’t want to have a little bruising,” Trump said while speaking on Air Force One. “I take the big aspirin, and when you take the big aspirin, they tell you, you bruise.”

He recalled a conversation with his doctor, saying: “The doctor said, ‘You don’t have to take that, sir, you’re very healthy.’ I said, ‘I’m not taking any chances.’”

A White House official shared photos of Trump taken in Davos on both Wednesday and Thursday to address speculation. “Pictures from yesterday and this morning clearly show no bruising,” the official told CNN. Video footage from the start of the Board of Peace signing event also did not show heavy bruising on Trump’s hand. However, around 10 minutes later, after he had been sitting at the table and signing multiple documents, the bruise became clearly visible.

Social media buzzes over Trump’s bruised hand

Trump’s bruised hand quickly became a talking point on social media, with users offering their own theories. Some users shared medical opinions, while others questioned the timing and appearance of the mark. One post asked ChatGPT to estimate the age of the bruise, which suggested it could be “around 2–5 days old,” depending on factors such as age, circulation, medication and skin tone.

Others focused on how the bruise appeared to change during the day. “Trump has bandages on his bruised hand and is falling asleep at public events almost daily. This man is not well, and I don’t think MAGA can deny it anymore,” another commented. “Two nights ago, someone posted that something was going on and thought he was on his way to Walter Reed. Yesterday, he kept his hand underneath the desk during their meeting, today it’s bandaged. They are lying about Trump’s health, Stephen Miller is unlawfully running the country,” one more added. “Eventually they’ll no longer be able to hide his deterioration,” a fourth added.

Past bruising has raised questions before

This is not the first time Trump’s hands have drawn attention. CNN has previously reported that he has long had bruising on his right hand, even before returning to the White House. That bruise became more noticeable after Trump began covering it with heavy makeup, bandages, or shielding it from cameras using his other hand. Bruising spotted on his left hand late last year had also led to renewed questions about his health.

Trump, 79, is currently the second-oldest person to serve as US president. The only person older was his predecessor, Democratic President Joe Biden, who stepped aside from the 2024 reelection race amid concerns over his fitness and left office last year at the age of 82.
