A horrific tragedy struck an Indian-origin family in Georgia, USA, earlier this week, leaving four members dead after a “domestic” rampage. As part of what the Gwinnett County Police has now branded a “homicide investigation,” authorities have identified the four victims killed during an incident that spiralled out of control after an argument began between an Indian-origin couple.

Fortunately, three children present at the premises survived the incident by making a timely 911 call that brought authorities to their door.

Indian-origin family members shot dead in Georgia identified

Detailing the limited information about the incident, the Gwinnett County Police issued multiple updates on X this week. Officials have since named 51-year-old Vijay Kumar, an Indian-origin man and Atlanta resident, as the prime suspect in the case.

Meanwhile, his wife, Meemu Dogra (43), and relatives Gourav Cumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37) and Harish Chander (38) have been identified as the deceased victims of the early Friday morning tragedy.

After officers responded to a “shot fired” call around 2:30 am on Friday in the 1000 block Brook Ivy Court in the Lawrenceville are neighbourhood, they found four adults inside the home. All four Indian-origin family members were pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds.

As per the case information released on X, the incident began with an argument between Dogra and Kumar at their Atlanta home. Thereafter, they travelled to a Brook Ivy Court residence with their 12-year-old child.

Their relatives Gourav Cumar, Nidhi Chander, and Harish Chander lived at that location with two juveniles (7 and 10 years old).

It still remains unclear what spurred the argument in the first place and why the Indian-origin couple came to the Brook Ivy Court residence. Additionally, authorities have yet to determine what led up to the fatal shootings following Dogra and Kumar’s arrival at the home.

How did the Indian-origin family’s children survive Lawrenceville shooting?

On the other hand, officers also found three underage children inside the Georgia home. As revealed in Gwinnett County Police’s X post, a 12-year-old among the three children managed to call 911, making way for police’s prompt response within minutes.

Although the kids were unharmed and were subsequently picked up by a family member, investigators disclosed that the shooting began in their presence, as per Fox 5 Atlanta.

It was also disclosed that the timely received call helped police arrive at the scene while the suspect’s vehicle was still in the driveway. They ultimately tracked the suspect nearby, who was then taken into custody without further incident.
