Top 10 small cap stocks that surged over 250% in 2015

Small cap stocks outperformed benchmark indices in 2015. The BSE Smallcap index advanced 5 per cent in the ongoing calendar year till December 23. On the other hand, the 30-share index BSE Sensex plunged 6 per cent during the same period.

According to market experts, large caps failed to perform in 2015 due to weak corporate earnings, Parliament logjam and uncertainty with regard to a shift in the monetary policy stance in the US. However, fall in raw material prices somewhere benefited small-and-mid cap companies in 2015.

Out of 762 components in the BSE Smallcap index, 13 gave a return of over 250 per cent in 2015. However, 32 stocks retreated more than 50 per cent during the year.

Here is list of top 10 small cap stocks that jumped over 250 per cent in 2015.

1.Intrasoft Technologies: The share price of Intrasoft Technologies surged 652 per cent in 2015 till December 23. The company is engaged in the business of providing electronic greeting cards, development of associated digital content and online marketing. It has partnered with several service providers for technological infrastructure to facilitate the same. For the quarter ended September 2015, the company posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 1.66 crore, up 80.09 per cent, against Rs 0.92 crore in the same quarter a year ago. The company is also among top 10 gainers in BSE in 2015.

2.Kellton Tech Solutions: The share price of the company, which is engaged in information technology (IT) services business, surged 406 per cent this year. The scrip jumped from Rs 35.55 on December 31 last year to Rs 179.90 on December 23 this year.

3.Rajesh Exports: The company is engaged in the manufacturing of gold and diamond jewellery. The share price of the company surged 378 per cent to Rs 680.40 on December 23 from Rs 142.40 on December 31 last year. For the quarter ended September 2015, the company posted net profit of Rs 279.84 crore, up 75.16 per cent, against Rs 159.77 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

4.Gayatri Projects: Share price of Gayatri Projects climbed 364 per cent to Rs 745.35 on December 23 from Rs 160.55 on December 1. FII holding in Gayatri Projects climbed from 29.99 per cent at the end of quarter September 2014 to 36.72 per cent in September 2015.

5.JMT Auto: The share price of JMT Auto gained 356 per cent till December 23 in 2015. The scrip jumped from Rs 21.34 on December 31 last year to Rs 97.30 on December 23 this year. The company manufactures around 1,200 automobile components ranging from engine components, gears, shafts, pins, bushes, idler bearings, carrier housing, gear rings, axles etc.

6.AYM Syntex: The company is the largest manufacturer and exporter of polyester texturised filament yarn from India. The share price of the company gained 315 per cent in the ongoing calendar year till December 23.

7.SpiceJet: The share price of the budget airline gained 306 per cent on a year-to-date basis till December 2015. For the quarter ended September 2015, SpiceJet posted net profit of Rs 23.77 crore, up 107.66 per cent, against net loss of Rs 310.45 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

8.Sangam (India): Sangam (India) shares gained 298 per cent this year till December 23. The scrip jumped from Rs 77.30 on December 31 to Rs 307.40 on December 23 this year. The company is engaged in the manufacturing of yarn and fabrics.

9.Tata Elxsi: The company provides system integration and software development, hardcore technology and strength in design. It also offers end-to-end solution across the product lifecycle. The share price of Tata Elxsi gained 282 per cent this year till December 2015.

10.Morepen Laboratories: The share price of India-based pharma companies gained 280 per cent this year. The scrip jumped from Rs 9.05 on December 31 to Rs 34.40 on December 23.

List of some other smallcap stocks that jumped over 250 per cent includes Srikalahasthi Pipes (up 251 per cent), Kwaity Ltd (up 255 per cent) and High Ground Enterprise (up 258 per cent).

On the other hand, share price of RISA International, PMC Fincorp, Taran Projects & Consultant, Vandanta Knitwear and Tilak Finance fell over 95 per cent in 2015 and stood among top losers in small cap space.
