Sabeer Bhatia, the co-founder of Hotmail, recently gave his Instagram followers a peek into his health and fitness routine, revealing how he keeps his body in shape and stays disease-free at the age of 57. In a candid reel, he shared the simple habits he swears by, and it is not necessary to follow any strict diet or intense gym workout routine to lose weight. As per Bhatia, one can lose weight by just being consistent and following one routine.
“I believe the best way to live a long life is to live disease-free,” Bhatia said. “And it’s not about extreme diets or fancy routines. It’s about consistency and a few simple choices every day.”
Sabeer Bhatia’s fitness routine at 57
Bhatia’s fitness routine includes mindful eating, and occasional calorie reduction. He starts with daily exercise, which includes cycling, weightlifting, and cardiovascular workouts. “Keep moving,” he says. “Whatever you can do, do it. Walk, lift weights, do cardio, just make sure your body stays active.”
The five-day reduced-calorie fast
When it comes to food, Bhatia keeps things mostly balanced but also includes what he calls ‘reduced-calorie fasts.’ These aren’t extreme water-only fasts, but five-day periods where his intake is intentionally low. He explains, “During these fasts, I eat very little, maybe one power bar in the morning, a bowl of watery soup for lunch, and another for dinner.”
The results, he says, are dramatic. The first time he tried this five-day reduced calorie fast, Bhatia lost around 20 pounds (9 kgs). Now, each time he follows this plan, he drops roughly 10 pounds (almost 4 kgs) in just five days. “It’s about resetting your body and giving it a break from overconsumption,” he adds.
Exercise along with fasts
Bhatia further explains that these short fasts work best with regular exercise. “You can’t just fast and sit around. You need to keep your body moving. Lift weights, cycle, walk, whatever fits into your schedule.”
Sleep is non-negotiable
For Bhatia, sleep is non-negotiable. “Even if you eat well and exercise, poor sleep can undo everything. I make sure I get good rest every night, it’s non-negotiable.”
Simplicity is the secret
What’s interesting about Bhatia’s approach is its simplicity. There are no complicated diets, no exclusive supplements, and no extreme routines. “I sometimes even overeat on regular days,” he admits. “The key is moderation and knowing when to give your body a break.”
Bhatia’s message is clear. He says healthy living doesn’t need to be complicated. Consistency, movement, smart eating, and occasional reduced-calorie periods can help in living a disease-free life.
