Puerto Rican music icon Bad Bunny is now confirmed to head one of the biggest shows in the US. Happy news came the rapper’s fans’ way on Sunday (US time), as their favourite singer was confirmed to headline the 2016 Super Bowl LX halftime show.
The “Monaco” hit-maker had previously broken many hearts over his admission that he would be skipping America as a potential concert venue altogether due to the controversial measures the country was taking to step up immigration crackdown and deportations. Born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, the 31-year-old tweeted in Spanish, “I’ve been thinking about it these days, and after discussing it with my team, I think I’ll do just one date in the United States.”
Although the Puerto Rican superstar taking centre stage at the upcoming Super Bowl is a headline worthy of big praise, he is no stranger to the NFL stage. He once stepped in as a guest performer at the Halftime Show in Miami, which was headlined by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.
Bad Bunny’s U-turn after ICE comments
The other reason why the latest confirmation is making heads turns is because Bunny had previously ruled out putting the US on his concert checklist.
“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, and none of them were out of hate—I’ve performed there many times,” he told D Magazine in an interview earlier this month. “But there was the issue of—like, f–king ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

Now that the 31-year-old has backtracked on his previous comments, he has already dedicated the forthcoming gig to “my people, my culture and our history.” Similarly, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, who is the executive producer of the Super Bowl halftime show, honoured the artist for his contributions to his homeland. “What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage,” he said, as per the Rolling Stone.
The Bad Bunny-themed Super Bowl plot twist was dealt out after weeks of speculations about who would be heading the highly anticipated showstopping performance. Notably, Taylor Swift was a top-running name on the list of potential Halftime Show performers until the negotiations reportedly fell through and she turned down the offer.
Fans react to Bad Bunny’s 2026 Super Bowl outing
Now that the “Yo Perreo Sol” singer is about to take over the music scene on the NFL side, his fans are already counting on him making another statement on ICE.
“Using the biggest stage on us television to send a message about this administration and ice is iconic to me let him cook,” someone commented under an X post disclosing Bad Bunny’s reaction to the new revelation. Another user added, “his album literally talks about displacement + colonialism in Puerto Rico. he’s 100% about to make a statement on ice…”
As some other users claimed that Super Bowl was “big enough” to “break” his stance against ICE, someone defended the Puerto Rican musician, saying, “I feel like people dont understand what he’s doing – playing the super bowl where the nfl has one of the strongest conservative fan bases in America.”

Another person reminded people of the singer’s relevance in the current zeitgeist: “Many are doubting the potential of bad bunny as a super bowl halftime performer when he’s literally the biggest superstar in latin music rn.”
A netizen tweeted, “At a time in our country where Trump has ICE putting so many innocent Latinos in concentration camps and ripping apart families… Having Bad Bunny someone who has opposed Trump openly doing the Super Bowl halftime show is such a powerful amazing statement.”
Bad Bunny is all set to take the stage at the Super Bowl LX on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
