Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has accused the incumbent Nitish Kumar of posting policemen around the trees at the Bihar chief minister’s official residence at 1, Anne Road in the city, to stop him from plucking fruits.

According to reports, 24 policemen are currently safeguarding 100 litchi, mango and jackfruit trees on the property, which Manjhi continues to occupy.

Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) spokesperson Niraj Kumar has reportedly dismissed the allegations as a ‘non-issue’.

Earlier, Manjhi had floated a new party, the ‘Hindustan Awaam Morcha’, after being ousted from the JD (U). According to reports, the HAM has been formed to counter the JD (U) ahead of Bihar assembly polls to be held later this year. Manjhi’s supporters are said to be predominantly Mahadalits and members from other backward castes.
