Outgoing Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi had no alternative but to quit as he did not have the required numbers to win the trust vote on the floor of the House, senior NCP leader Tariq Anwar said on Friday.

“Manjhi had no alternative but to resign as he did not have required the numbers to take floor test,” he told reporters here.

Charging Manjhi with creating political instability in Bihar over the past two weeks, he rued that Manjhi had announced a number of sops which the next government would find it difficult to implement.

Anwar, however, exuded confidence that Nitish Kumar would usher in good governance in Bihar over the next six months.

Accusing BJP of being squarely responsible for political instability in Bihar, he said that the saffron party must own up its “mistake of derailing the development process in the state”.

On the challenges before the next government in alliance with RJD, Congress, CPI and independents, Anwar said that Kumar would resolve these issues as a he was a seasoned leader.
