A six-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by his 35-year-old neighbour, Balram Dass alias Kalu, in the Govindpuri area of southeast Delhi, officials said Wednesday.

According to PTI, the incident, which took place on Sunday, was brought to light on Tuesday when the victim disclosed that he had been inappropriately touched by the accused. Upon the boy’s revelation, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, simultaneously police arrested Kalu on Tuesday night.

Police safely transported the accused to the station despite a growing crowd outside the GovindPuri police station demanding action. Senior officers reassured the crowd that strict measures would be taken against the accused.

The boy’s family reported him missing on September 1. He was found a few hours later and brought to the police station. After being examined at AIIMS, the boy was placed in the Boys Care Home in Lajpat Nagar.

Initially, the family did not report any sexual assault. On Tuesday, the boy’s statement was recorded before a magistrate, with no incriminating details mentioned. However, during a later appearance before the Child Welfare Committee, the boy alleged that the accused had inappropriately touched him.
