Timeline for implementation of import restriction on laptops likely to be extended: IT Ministry

The government is likely to extend the time limitation for import license by a month as reported by Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Twitter. This is to hand in more time to industries for the clearance of shipments in transit.

Himachal Pradesh death toll rises to 200 this monsoon

The state emergency operation centre reported the total number of deaths in Himachal Pradesh due to rain-related incidents and road accidents as it reveals the state has suffered Rs 6,650 crore loss, around 200 deaths and 238 got injured, while 32 are missing. Out of 200 people 76 died in road accidents, 39 in landslides, 27 by falling from height, 18 in flash floods, 17 in accidental drowning, one in cloud burst, nine due to electrocution and 13 due to other reasons.

Implementation time of track, trace system for drug formulation exports extended till Feb 2024

The track and trace system of drugs to export has extended the date for implementation to February 2024. It implies both non-SSI (Small Scale Industry) and SSI-manufactured drugs. According to the public notice, the manufacturer or the exporter of drugs has to develop a barcode with global standards to facilitate tracking and tracing of their products.

Video of BJP minister’s son opens fire at a tribal youth in MP

A video has surfaced on the internet that showed a man, identified as son of a BJP MLA Ramlallu Vaish from Singrauli, shooting at a tribal young man on his hands. The FIR has been registered against Vaish and the injured was rushed to a hospital.

Article 370 hearing: Mehbooba says she is hopeful Constitution will be upheld & not subverted

With the Supreme Court hearing a batch of pleas challenging the revocation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday expressed hope that the country’s Constitution would be upheld and not be subverted to fulfil the ruling party’s agenda. “Heartening to see Mr Kapil Sibal’s strong defence of Article 370 which is inexorably tied to J&K’s aspirations & future. PDP is looking forward to arguments put forward by our legal team led by Ms. Nitya Ramakrishnan. CM Sukhu seeks financial assistance from PM Modi for flood-affected areas

The Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi for financial assistance for the state damage due to heavy rainfalls for the past few days. Van carrying pilgrims overturns in UP’s Pratapgarh, 2 dead

A tempo van carrying around 15 pilgrims traveling to Baba Ghuisarnath Dhaam, overturned and injured 13 people, including 3 children and driver. The total death toll is 2 young women. The injured people were taken to a hospital in Lalganj.

SBI Q1 profit jumps to Rs 18,735.95 crore, beats estimates

Public sector bank State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday posted its fiscal first quarter profit at Rs 18,735.95 crore, up 148.9 per cent as against Rs 7528.25 crore during the corresponding quarter of FY23, surpassing estimates. It posted total interest earned during the quarter at Rs 1,01,460.01 crore, up 32.1 per cent in comparison to Rs 76,780.86 crore during Q1FY23. According to CNBC TV18 estimates, SBI was expected to post a profit of Rs 15,838.2 crore during the quarter. (READ MORE)

SC stays Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in defamation case

In a big relief for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed his conviction in the defamation case. The apex court bench of Justice BR Gavai J stayed his conviction in the criminal defamation case over ‘Modi surname’ remark that led to Gandhi’s disqualification as MP. ‘…order of conviction needs to be stayed pending final adjudication…,’ the 3-judge bench said while giving the verdict. Reacting to the verdict, the Congress posted a photo of Rahul Gandhi along with a caption – Satyamev Jayate.

More trouble for Zee?

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs took cognizance of the SEBI’s interim order against Zee Entertainment Enterprises, ET NOW reported on Friday. The ministry is looking into the irregularities at Zee as alleged by the market watchdog. However, the report further adds that the ministry has not ordered and inspection or a detailed probe as of now. The Securities and Exchange Board of India on June 12 had barred both Subhash Chandra and his son Punita Goenka from holding any board positions in the listed companies of the group. While Chandra is the chairman of Zee, son Puneet is CEO.

Gyanvapi Survey stopped for namaz

8 dead in Thailand train accident

At least eight people lost their lives and four others were badly injured when a freight train rammed into a pickup truck at a railway crossing in Thailand on Friday. The collision took place at 2:20 am in Thailand’s Muang district of Chachoengsao province, an AP report said.

I-T raids Kalpataru premises

Income Tax (I-T) department searched real estate development company Kalpataru Group’s premises in Rajasthan and Mumbai on Friday, CNBC-TV18 reported, citing sources. Shares of Kalpataru Projects International, which is a part of Kalpataru Group, fell as much as 3.6% on the report. Both the IT department and Kalpataru did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment. (Reuters)

Excise policy cases: Interim bail pleas of Sisodia to be heard on September 4

The Supreme Court on Friday deferred hearing for September 4 on the interim bail pleas of AAP leader Manish Sisodia in two Delhi excise policy cases being probed by the CBI and ED. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti perused the medical records of Sisodia’s wife, and said she is “fairly stable” and, therefore, it will consider the interim bail pleas of former deputy chief minister along with regular bail pleas in the cases. Kia, Hyundai recall cars over fire risk

Two auto majors – Hyundai and Kia – are recalling nearly 92,000 cars in the US over fire risk, latest media reports say. Both companies have advised the car-owners to park their vehicles away from buildings. The issue is related to an electrical part inside the transmission oil pump that may overheat. In recent years, this is one of the major fire-linked recalls by Kia and Hyundai.
