Maruti Suzuki India reported its highest-ever monthly sales in May 2026, driven by strong demand across passenger vehicle segments and growing consumer interest in compressed natural gas (CNG) models.
The automaker said bookings for its CNG-powered vehicles have increased by around 40 per cent following recent fuel price hikes, as buyers increasingly look for lower running-cost alternatives.
Fuel price increases boost CNG demand
State-owned fuel retailers raised petrol and diesel prices multiple times during May as they sought to offset higher crude oil costs linked to disruptions caused by the Iran conflict.
Against this backdrop, CNG vehicles have gained traction among cost-conscious consumers, helping strengthen demand for Maruti Suzuki’s alternative-fuel portfolio.
Maruti Suzuki India on Monday reported total sales of 242,688 units in May 2026, marking a 34.76 per cent increase from 180,077 units sold in the same month last year.
Domestic dispatches touched a record 193,535 units during the month, compared with 138,690 units in May 2025, reflecting robust demand across urban and semi-urban markets.
Passenger vehicle segments record strong growth
Sales to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) stood at 7,239 units during the month.
The company’s entry-level models, including Alto and S-Presso, recorded a sharp rise in sales, increasing to 16,275 units from 6,776 units in the year-ago period.
Compact cars remained one of the largest contributors to overall volumes. Combined sales of models such as Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR rose to 81,555 units in May 2026 from 61,960 units a year earlier.
Utility vehicle sales also witnessed strong momentum. Models including Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Vitara and XL6 together recorded sales of 79,267 units, compared with 54,899 units in May 2025.
Exports and commercial vehicle sales rise
The company’s van segment, led by the Eeco, registered sales of 13,240 units during the month, up from 12,327 units in the corresponding period last year.
Sales of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle also improved, rising to 3,198 units from 2,728 units a year ago.
Maruti Suzuki’s overseas shipments continued to grow steadily, with exports reaching 41,914 units in May 2026 compared with 31,219 units in the same month last year.
The record monthly performance underscores the company’s continued dominance in the domestic passenger vehicle market, supported by broad-based demand growth across segments and increasing consumer preference for fuel-efficient mobility options.
