After spending nearly two decades building what has become one of India’s most famous quick commerce companies, Deepinder Goyal has decided to step down as Group Chief Executive Officer of Eternal. The announcement, shared on his X handle and later confirmed through a company filing, revealed that Goyal will exit the CEO role effective February 1. He will continue on the board as Vice Chairman.
For many, Goyal has been synonymous with the brand itself, a founder who not only shaped the company’s identity but also played a defining role in India’s quick commerce evolution.
Why is Deepinder Goyal exiting Eternal?
In a letter to shareholders, Goyal explained that his decision was due to a growing pull towards experimentation and exploration that carries higher risk. He wrote, “Of late, I have found myself drawn to a set of new ideas that involve significantly higher-risk exploration and experimentation. These are the kinds of ideas that are better pursued outside a public company like Eternal.”
He further added, “Eternal deserves to remain focused and disciplined while exploring new areas of growth that are relevant to its current line of business. While I believe I personally have the bandwidth to continue what I am doing at Eternal and also explore new ideas outside of it, the expectations, legal and otherwise, of a public company CEO in India demand singular focus,” he added.
Goyal will remain on the board as Vice Chairman
Goyal was clear that stepping down from the CEO role does not mean distancing himself from the company he built. He stated clearly Eternal as a life’s work and stressed that the partnership and trust he shares with the leadership team remains intact.
In the letter he said he has spent almost half his life building the company and intends to continue contributing meaningfully. He will keep working closely with the leadership team, with no change in the autonomy that individual business CEOs currently enjoy.
Albinder Dhindsa to take the helm
As part of the transition, Albinder Dhindsa has been named the new Group CEO of Eternal. Dhindsa, the founder and CEO of Blinkit, will now be responsible for day-to-day execution, operational priorities, and key business decisions across the group.
Goyal expressed strong confidence in Dhindsa’s ability to lead, also stated as a resilient founder with exceptional execution skills. Blinkit, which remains Eternal’s biggest growth engine, will continue to be Dhindsa’s primary focus even as he takes on broader responsibilities.
Before founding Blinkit in 2013, Dhindsa played a key role at Zomato, where he led international expansion efforts. His academic journey includes a BTech in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi and an MBA from Columbia University in New York. Over the years, he has emerged as one of the most influential operators in India’s quick commerce space.
The leadership transition comes at a time when Eternal is reporting strong financial momentum. In the third quarter of FY26, the company posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 102 crore, a 73 percent year-on-year jump from Rs 59 crore in the same period last year.
