Tata Group’s subsidiary, Tejas Network, on Thursday announced that the company has been awarded equipment purchasing contracts for the BharatNet Phase-III packages. The company added that with this contract it becomes the leading supplier of IP Routing products across the country,

As per its regulatory filing, the company has been awarded IP Routing equipment purchase contracts for 7 of the 12 BharatNet Phase-III packages till date.

About BharatNet Phase III

BharatNet is an ambitious project by Government of India that aims to curb the digital divide between rural and urban India. The objective of BharatNet-Phase III is to create dependable, robust, and scalable middle-mile network for BharatNet via the utilisation of IP-MPLS technology to ensure high-quality broadband for the rural communities.

As a part of this nationwide deployment, Tejas will be providing TJ1400 family of next-generation access and aggregation routers, which are indigenously designed and developed by the company. In its regulatory filing the company added that a large number of these carrier-grade systems are already operational in high-availability, mission-critical networks.

For BharatNet Phase III, TJ1400 products will be deployed in 9 states, which includes, Bihar, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and 5 union territories. Altogether, over 50,000 TJ1400 routers will be deployed across 57,000 GPs (Gram Panchayats) and 2000 Blocks in the country.

Tejas is partnering with five PIAs, namely, NCC, Polycab, Invenia-STL Networks, GR Infraprojects and ITI, for the BharatNet Phase III deployment.
