Amazon has announced that Prime Video will begin incorporating limited advertisements in India starting in 2025. According to the company, this move comes as part of the company’s ongoing investment in compelling content and aims to enhance the viewing experience while maintaining a diverse range of offerings.
Amazon has assured users that the advertising strategy will not overwhelm the viewing experience. The company aims to have ‘meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers’. Alongside the introduction of advertisements, Amazon will also offer an ad-free option for viewers, although the pricing details for this option will be shared at a later date.
Furthermore, there will be no immediate changes to the current price of Prime membership. The company has stated that it will be informing Prime members several weeks prior to the introduction of ads, providing details on how to opt for the ad-free experience if they prefer. Additionally, the company also clarified that this change will not affect Prime Lite subscribers, who will continue to enjoy Prime Video’s library on a single device in 720p High-Definition, with ads.
According to the company website, Amazon offers various pricing options for its Prime membership in India. The monthly subscription is available for Rs 299, while the quarterly plan costs Rs 599. For those looking for a longer commitment, the annual Prime membership is priced at Rs 1,499. Additionally, there is an annual Prime Lite option, which provides access to Prime services at a lower price of Rs 799.
