Kolkata Metro on Tuesday (June 25) informed that the construction work to link Joka-Majerhat stretch with the city center is progressing rapidly. According to a statement from Kolkata Metro,  the construction has commenced for the Mominpur to Park Street stretch on the Purple Line.

The statement also informed that the construction of Victoria Metro station along this corridor is proceeding smoothly. Special attention has been given to monitoring vibrations during station construction, particularly in proximity to the historic Victoria Memorial Hall.

To facilitate uninterrupted construction, 22 encroaching trees at the station site have been carefully transplanted to Kamardanga railway land in eastern Kolkata, adhering strictly to regulatory norms.

Tunneling work update

Furthermore, preparations are underway for tunneling operations from Khidderpore to Park Street using two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), which will be deployed from the Khidderpore launching shaft. Currently, construction of this launching shaft, located within the premises of St. Thomas School in Khidderpore, is in progress.

Once completed, the Purple Line will connect Joka with Esplanade, significantly enhancing Kolkata’s metro connectivity and infrastructure network.
