Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were significantly impacted on Sunday, with nearly 100 flights—52 domestic departures, 44 arrivals, and one international departure—cancelled between 5:00 am and 4:30 pm, according to a source familiar with the matter. The disruptions came amid heightened security protocols following the recent military tensions between India and Pakistan.
Airspace restrictions and airport closures
Enhanced security measures led to the temporary closure of at least 32 airports across northern and western India. The cancellations followed a ceasefire agreement reached on Saturday between India and Pakistan, under which both sides agreed to halt all land, air, and sea military activities with immediate effect.
DIAL confirms operational status
Despite the disruptions, the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which operates IGIA—the country’s busiest airport—confirmed that the airport is “operating normally.” However, DIAL acknowledged that increased security protocols and airspace restrictions could result in changes to flight schedules and longer processing times at security checkpoints.
